Having surveyed this myself - vb seems to be the pick of choice.

Personally, for something new and different, I like the look of Vanilla

Has anyone ever heard of WowBB? Just saw a site using it.
I use phpBB right now, but plan to switch to vB.

    This one? :D

I don't recommend it. Go with vb. Wowbb is shoddy stuff in a glossy cover. The support is not up to expectations for paid software and one of their staff members is extremely rude.

Yes, thanks for the reply, that's good to know. On the surface, it looks like it has some nice features.

I looked on their forum and a lot of people didn't like the default color scheme, but I thought it was kind of cool.

It lacks a captcha in the registration form. The need of the hour for wowbb. And if you like my board, well it's heavily modded;)

I have experience with phpbb and vbulletin.

    phpbb
    + FREE!
+ Widely in use so users are familiar with it.
    + Easy modification

    vbulletin
+ Administration system is very versatile and logigal.
    + Lots of quality add-ons.
(-) not free, but it's worth it...

Yeah, great forum and color scheme. :)

I'm still up in the air about which forum software to go with. I'm using phpBB, (because its free) until I get my forum going. I kind of want to wait and see how it does before I spend the $160 or so for vBulletin.

After seeing your implementation of wowBB, I was considering that since it had a monthly license option.

I actually like phpBB, but I'm worried about the 'hack-ability' of it.

From my experience of using many different forum packages

    Paid = VBulletin, Free = phpBB :)

Meh, pretty much Kartik is right. Though some are more secure than others. Specifically IPB and VB.
