I have more backlinks than most of my competition and most of my competitors have pr 0. I also understand that its the quality of backlinks over quanitity but most of my competitors have pr 0 backlinks as well as I do. There is even a site with no content and backlinks but it ranks higher than me and the only thing it has is an exact match keyword in the domain name. I do not understand why I am not ranking higher than these sites, or at least higher than the site with no content or backlinks.

PR is not decided only on Backlinks. SEO optimization is necessary to allow google bots to crawl and check. Traffic is necessary. Some tools helps really in attain high page rank/
Backlinks are really not much important! All you need is the live traffic which means actual traffic to be ranked higher! If you are watching for alexa ranks then do some search...... Technically, the reason is that there are other sites that Google ranks higher than yours, according to the current implementation of their algorithm
Just like to ask you first, what your previous rank before to start this massive linking direct to your site? If you didn't move even once its clear that there something wrong with your process. If you step up atleast 2, well i guess its good start and your doing good job. You can't really get the result that you want in just a few days or a week. It really need hard work and time, infact if you think doing the process right no need to worry just wait and everything will end-up fine. Goodluck!

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. I am on page two if you search for my keywords unquoted and page one if you search for it quoted. Does exact search in google keyword tools mean people are searching it in quotes?
Your keyword research misses the right words for your website that's why it doesn't rank higher. Try to research more for good keywords and implement it immediately.
You need to post content at least twoce a week to move up. Forget about PR, it really doesn't mean anything when looking at competition. A PR0 could easily outrank a PR3.
