The last couple months I've been dealing with a programmer and his team from India to make a data mining program. The program is pretty much done, and he agreed to give me the program once I pay him, and until then he would run the results and send them to me in .xls format. Well, he's run the results for about a week and will run them until Friday, which is when I'll be able to pay him in full. He said he will teach me how to use the program once he sends it to me. I tried to get him to set up a Paypal account; he told me he couldn't set it up. Now, if someone can program, they should have enough general knowledge to be able to set up a paypal account. Do other Indians here have problems setting up a paypal account? Or would there be a legitimate reason to not want to use Paypal? He wants me to use either Western Union or Moneygram to pay him. The buyer is not protected with either of these services, which is an area of concern for me. My idea I have come up with, is to send him half on Friday, then he will send me the program and after that I will send him the other half, then he can explain to me how to work the program. So what should I do? Is there a viable alternative to Paypal where the buyer is protected? Should I help him step by step to set up a Paypal account? What should I do?
try getting moneybookers or use escrow if the amount is above $500. in that way you can avoid disputes.
to setup a paypal account, Indians need to have a PAN card. but i dont see any reason not to use paypal. another alternative is to use Paisapay which is a lot similar to PP but more flexible for Indians Paypal is owned by ebay....but has a seperate Identity. Since Paypal is not available in India, ebay.in has given birth to a new baby called Paisapay. Buyers can pay through Paisapay via two methods. 1. Pay by Credit Card.(CC) 2. Pay by Online Bank Transfer.(OBT) Sellers have to get registered and accept the terms & conditions of Paisapay to receive money. International Buyers can easily pay through Paisapay (using CC) to Indian Sellers. But may charge international visa fees The benefit is that the Seller receives the payment fast and in Indian Rupees. Paypal & Paisapay both are owned by ebay but there is NO inter-connection between the two and both have their own Identity.
He may be banned from paypal for some reason. It's quite common, even in the states. My suggestion is to either force him to use Paypal via a family member or associate (if you intend to prepay) or to use his preferred method if you will postpay (i.e. after you have received what you are paying for). Moneybookers and WU have NO REFUND POLICY. Be careful.
What is paisapay's official sign up website? I found a paisapay.in site but it does not appear to be what is being described.
The title of this thread made be afraid and i thought that paypal is dropped bombshell for indians! anyway any changes to title thread would be a nice change.
I think paisapay works only with ebay that means buyer can pay through paisapay only if product is listed on ebay and he also needs to be registered with ebay. I never heard or seen that paisapay has a seperate identity like paypal. If so i would be glad to know about their official website.
yeah, you need ebay account to use paisapay http://pages.ebay.in/paisapay/pspx_faqs.html i dont suggest using Western Union or Moneygram, use them only if he sends the program first, else ask him to sign up for a paypal account or to use one of his friends or relatives
Yes and as if the banks are ready for such an incident... Indian banks are not ready even for online banking much forget about such issues... They wouldnt take notice even if it was something to the tune of 5000 dollars so 500$ is just trifle for them. Surely someone is upto mischief here and i think best solution which is transparent for both is to use escrow...
Paypal is still up and running for Indian users. I have just verified my paypal account and transferred few bucks from my paypal account to my bank account .
