.FREE (dotFREE) - upcoming possible new gTLD | discussion thread

    Website: dotfree.com

Info summary: the company behind CZ.CC - dotFree Group s.r.o. - is proposing a new gTLD, .FREE. If all goes well, we'll be able to reg .free domains somewhere in 2012 or so.
Currently it is possible to make pre-registrations.

What you guys think of this? :)

Not quite, .free will be for domains like games.free, a website that offers something for free.
Nice idea, I'd love to see that TLD on the internet.

If .FREE becomes available, it'll be a generic top level domain (gTLD), like .INFO or .COM.
Means it'll rank better at search engines.

.TK is just a random ccTLD (country level), like .CO or .IN.
Not to mention that .tk admins will take over your domain, if your site ever gets popular. This makes .tk even worse than CZ.CC free subdomain.

Another oppurtunity that .FREE would give is domain hacks. There's lots of websites that are about giving free stuff to people.

Just another not need extension to be honest, we need less extensions and more quality websites.

How so? .com/.net/.org are pretty crowded. Most good names are sedoparked.
A short/good name is great step towards a quality website.

If there would be even less gTLD extensions, than there is now, we would have to register domains like youtube usernames (senseless word/number combos). Or use some foreign/globally unknown ccTLDs.

Having a bad domain name actually does not prevent people from generating good income, to have a good name like gold.com is beneficial but not essential.

.FREE, does not even make sense, e.g. business.free << just does not make sense to me.

These extensions benefit from us, each time they launch all the good keywords get sold quickly (depending on quality of the extension). But later Google does not treat us fairly and the customers have to adapt to something new.

I take your point on board though.

I sow that site a few months ago. Well the idea itself is good, but I dont think icann will approve this gTLD, they don't have any reason to approve it :p

I was kinda skeptical about it. I read a few points that I can correct and I do agree with those honest comments. But I'll love to get a keyword rich domain with a .free extansion if ever. However if icann dont approve it then its still okay.

In my opinion, .free domains could be very successful as they help with ranking in search engines, since many people search for free stuff on the internet. Also, as it's been said before, someone who wants to build a private website would be happy to have a nice address for which he/she would not have to pay.
The number of pre-registrations is an indicator that people are interested in it anyway...
