Best way to promote a FORUM?

Do you guys know the best way to promote a FORUM? Is it PPC(adwords) or something else? Please post all what you know.

Yeh welcome, you can try buying text or banner links on other sites with similar content.

find like minded websites and affiliate (often they will do it for free)

 

Submit a load of articles (two a week for a couple of months) regarding the subject of your forum.

In the "About author box" at the bottom of each article put in a link to your forum. Use something jazzy like...

Articles take a while to get round the net but once they are out there they bring a nice stream of traffic.

Watchword is consistency... keep plugging away.

An HTML website leading to the forum can help a lot. Just having a forum would be hard to get hits by.

 

Write as many high quality guides about your forum's topic as possible and post them on your own forum.

The longer and the more detailed they are - the better.
Search engines will spider your guides and present them in the search results for relevant search terms.

From there, the road to surfer registrations is much shorter.

well forums does take sometime to get started but they are worthed if eveyrthing goes fine. Setup the forum and then use some social networking sites like orkut / myspace to drive some visitors . Run up some contest if it fits in the budget as it will attract more members . Then also advertise your forum on other active sites / blogs / forums .

i think you should submit unique articles to your forum. every day submit new article then wait a moment you will see the visitors comes to your site from search engines and other sites.

 

yeps as i said it will take some time to get going . Post some unique content daily and you can expect the traffic from SEs .

 

What worked for me well at first was to go to google groups (or any other groups but i did google) find your topic and plug your site. Try to be slick people really really dont like spam and you can get into some dodo. But it worked.
