who knows, but i guess it would take some time before new SE take over google spot..too far to happen yet
If facebook manage to integrate "social search" it all could get very interesting. I do think that Facebook's deal with Bing is a sleeping giant, with the amount data facebook have at their disposal they have a lot of potential to do some clever things with their data for a search engine. Facebook have already decided to start work on an email platform, maybe it's only just a matter of time?
Facebook could not overtake Google for 'search'. Why? Because Google is a 'closed' model. Meaning the data they collect has NOT been authorized by any individual to be 'used' for anything. Where Facebook employs the 'open' social platform where users have given Facebook the right to 'use' your hypothetical search data in whichever way they deem fit. Google will always have a place. As will Facebook. Here's a brief excerpt from a blog I read: "Facebook knows who you are and has the right to use that information because you explicitly gave it to them. Google has different kinds of data that reveal a lot about who you are and what you are interested in -- some of it very private. But very little of that data is information you explicitly told the company to share, and they've assiduously promised not to use your search history and e-mail data to profile of you." --Clint Boulton Also, in the last year Google's revenue for just display ads was around $23 billion. Which is comparatively close to Facebook's entire market value of around $25 billion. This doesn't include revenue from YouTube, and all other avenues and corps they've bought out/merged with along the way. One more thing, Facebook being social will always be more open to legal issues as compared to the 'closed' model of Google. Just my two cents. Best, Ryan
It is hard to tell.. though I don't think FB can do that in an instant.. Google built their reputation as SE for a long time, and FB need to surpass that if they wanted to overtake them.. but no one really knows.. but we'll see if they will release one..
Facebook already integrated with Bing, and the best part about it is that with the integration with Facebook, Bing brings out searches that automatically filter pages according to your friends' search targets, interests, your interests history. I don't know yet if Facebook with the integration will be able to take over Google but it is a possibility, keeping in mind Facebook's growing user data and popularity. however, it is too early to make any statements yet, but i wont be surprised if it results in Facebook's favor.
I dont think it will be a better option than google. Facebook have to do a lot in their search engine programs which will be too difficult now.
you made me realize a new idea. why not make facebook look or operate like google? right? That might be cool
