its one of those kinds of sites where if you get any traffic from there its just a bonus. You can't really go wrong with some getting something for free.

I like stumbleupon, it send visitors to my game site and as they have an interest in online games (as chosen in there profile) then they play the games on my site. Good for cpm butnot for ppc

I have gotten a lot of traffic from stumblers over the last few months. A lot of them mailed me with comments and questions etc. I think if the content is right they will do more than just click onto the next site.

I have never tried it but an extra 200-500 untargeted nearly worthless visitors a month or whatever doesnt seem very appealing for the work probably involved.

It only takes about a minute, so there's not much work involved. For some sites (like my business-oriented ones) it won't convert well. But for others it does. My music sites do well with SU, and the ad clicks have gone up pretty proportionately. It just depends who you're targeting I guess. Nothing works for everyone in every situation. :)

I have some traffic to a site or two from stumbleupon. StumbleUpon would benefit sites related to games, photos, and video's as the concept behind the SU is viral in nature and those types of sites are viral. Hope that makes sense. Ok, I'll simplify...of you have a site with games or cool videos, get Stumbled and you'll get good traffic.

Although I think Stumbleupon is a pretty nice idea,
I am not so sure about its effect as far as people's attention is concerned.
They don't stay if your site is "good" and leave if it's "bad".
Rather, most of the stumbleupon users seem to stay if your site is "catchy" and leave if it's not.
And by "catchy", I mean "really" catchy.
I've been using stumbleupon myself, and I even found myself doing the same thing.
In my opinion, if you really want to be noticed by stumbleupon users, you should make your main page for your website like you would write a headline for a press release. For some sites it helps, but for some sites it would conflict with the usability issue.
    What do you think?

I downloaded the stumbleupon toolbar today, however, when I placed a thumbs up for the first site I had a message appear saying it cannot send the form due to either cookies being disabled for stumbleupon or the clock speed is too fast!!!? has anyone had similar problems to this and if so, how do you solve them, I have no idea about the clock speed and when I went into the Internet system my computer has all cookies allowed!

Anyone offer any kind of help I would be grateful...

    Thanks in advance...

I remember SU being flaky with IE a little while back for a few people I know were using it. Are you using IE? If so, try it on Firefox instead.

I've used it for my sites. Like someone said, not huge traffic but, still, some each day. I also use stumleupon in combination with http://www.netdisaster.com/ for political activism... :D

Stumbleupon really works for all kinds of niches. For instance my spirituality related website (Buddhism, theosophy, Sufism etc.) gets a lot of stumbles (as in up to thousands on one day), and it doesn't seem to get any less either. In some cases it's high-quality articles, in some cases short quotes that (I think) capture the essence of something. In some cases it's about 'what's catchy'.

Stumblers want information. They want opinion (politics would work well, though that's really not my niche). They want fun. Very general, but not usually about 'where can I spend my money'.

Still I also use it to find out whether a piece of software is going to be up to my needs. I downloaded PSPad a while ago, after reviewing what stumblers (a relatively tech-savvy crowd compared to say Myspace) said about various text-editors. So don't thumb-up your tech-related gadget in stumbleupon until you know it's ready. It will get burned down if it's not ready.

The newest toolbar also puts information on google-results about the sites that got thumbs up. Very useful info, but it also means an extra advantage to those sites that are in the stumbleupon database.

I think you should see it as a way of promoting deep pages. Don't make your main page into entertainment central, just for stumbleupon. Make your whole site a great place for people interested in your niche to go to. Make it clear on your homepage what you have to offer and people will stumble particular pages in your website - the pages that interest them most.
Who cares which page users start with anyhow? The main page is really only for people who bookmark your site, or find it searching for you (or your brand) in particular.

I have used SU a lot and have had a few pages that got over 1,500 uniques a day (but only for a few days before slowing down). The visitors don't convert well, but I have found that if a page is really good it increases my inbound links (and probably bookmarks).
If you have a page, or site, you think people will really like it's a great way to introduce it while you are waiting for search engine traffic.
Stumble my sites if you like :)

Ned - why are you always so negative? I don't follow all of your posts, but it seems that every thread that I've seen you participate in, you never have anything positive to say. (about anything)

    Just curious!

This is a forum. People are allowed to express opinion including negative ones. If you dont like my posts, put me on ignore.

I try to drive converting traffic to my site. Sumble traffic doesn't cut it for me.

That's exactly what I was talking about, right there. You focused right in on the negative, and amplified it. Nobody said you weren't "allowed" to do anything.

I don't have any need to put you on ignore. (although it seems a great many do not feel the same way as I do) I was just curious why you always respond like a crusty old curmudgeon.

A little wit, humor, or even courtesy would make you a bit more likeable. But that's jusy my opinion. Use it responsibly.

Speaking of being 'crusty old curmudgeon', it appears you are a hypocrite.

Here is one of your posts:

Why not take your own advice before you tell other people what to do?

Didn't know that it would bring so much traffic... I should have started using it when it came out. Dumb dumb... I have to work less.
