reputation : what does it mean

    Why do you lose reputaion for giving someone a red? I think that would discourage people from trying to make the site better.

    when you give a red reputation, i think the relevancy of your reason doesn't match with the post or previous reputations. thats why you get red instead of the person you give the reputaion.

    Does any one know other reasons?

    Before this implication, there was a lot of rep abuse going on. People were getting reds on their 6 months old posts. Some people were intentionally hunting down the posts and giving reds for no particular reason. And as a result we were seeing threads complaining about reds daily in S&F.

    After this "cost" thing introduced, rep abuse has dropped considerably.

    Even after this implication, some low life jerks :)rolleyes:) are still abusing it.
    but yes the total ammount of abuse has gone down.
