GP has made a lot of changes recently. I have seen some clients increase/decrease traffic and rank. How has it affected you or your clients? Thoughts on how to combat/adapt to the new developments...?

So far, only positive rankings have been affected. But, for some listings, About.com appears as the first listing, so this tells me that the top spot can be earned in time...

As far as getting those rankings? Hyper local listings of course!

This is a prove that old link building tactics may not work anymore and your current link values may be devalued. If your website has been linked from some trusted website then your ranking would high and stable.

natural baclinks count , and they build up with time .... more people start discussing about your site and you start to get authority on that keyword ...

Natural backlinks are good, but are also hard to get. You need some good unique content to get people link to you

I have seen a decrease in some clients' impressions, but when I checked, they had increased traffic to their sites. For my clients that don't have a website, they have seen increases all around. The new layout, displaying local results above all the traditional sites has been interesting. I am curious if the switch to Google Instant has been hurting you guys that target long-tailed keyword phrases, or if it has had any other impact...?
