On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest, 10 the highest) how beneficial would it be to your site if you got a link as a source/citation on WikiPedia?
Depends, if it's relevant to your whole site, not only to a piece of it then I think 8+ at least! It's an authority site, I know that it is nofollow, but still an authority site!
I will give it 8 bcos it is nofollow & it is open source. If the editor thinks that your links is not related he can remove your link.
From experience it drives decent traffic - at least in the context of the niche I'm in. It is no follow so probably won't add to PR. I'd say a 7. It's quite easy to get the link on a page. Having it stay there for any longer than 30 seconds is much more challenging.
Yap I had a link a few weeks ago below an article listed and it got some nice traffic, but eventually it was deletec
I will give - "5" because it won't add link juice to your site and also there is every possibility of removing your link by any editors including your competitor...
The answer to this question solely depends on your business objectives. It doesn't matter the "worth" of the website or whether or not the link is do/no-follow. If the site is able to bring you the traffic that you need, all else does not matter. Clients would rather 50 more people per day viewing his/her products than 1 person per day. I would not let clout, link-worth, or other silly industry criteria sway that. Agreed?
"I will give - "5" because it won't add link juice to your site and also there is every possibility of removing your link by any editors including your competitor... " In your words, define "juice" and the value it brings.
I've got around 500 links from Wikipedia as source. It brings a decent amount of traffic. (but for my site there are some bad points too about it)
9 out of 10. Wikipedia link can generate good traffic to your site I not giving 10 because it is nofollow
I'm listed as a source in all of the links as I have a website focused on statistics for athletes that's not available elsewhere in that particular form. The problem with this is that basically Wikipedia is taking my unique content from my website, then obviously outranking me for it in the search engine and then placing a very tiny no-follow at the bottom of the page that only a very small percent of the page's visitors click on. So eventhough they send me good traffic I'm probably losing out on way more. Nothing I can really do about it though as the statistics on my site is not something I can claim any copyright on, it's freely available to compile from other sources (that's the hard work I've done that Wiki is benefiting from).
Well, at least it does make me feel a bit good that my site is used as some kind of authority in that particular field.
Great you got link from Wikipedia. But as Wikipedia is nofollow your not going to get any any PR juice. So this link won't help improve your PR since Search Engines don't follow nofollow links. Any ways It should help you get substantial amount of traffic. When I find a your link on wiki not only i click on them but also I get impressed and tend to come back again and again. So you get a lot of returning visitors. As your visitors increases your ranking. I'd probably give 7 out of 10
