As Predicted: Border Fence Just Politicking

There was a story in the Washington Post about the new border fence.

Thanks to Republicans, it won't get built. There was language put into the bill that allowed funds for the fence to be spent on other issues like roads and Homeland Security's "virtual fence" plan. Also, it recognizes Indian tribes as sovereign states and gives them (among others) say in exactly where fence is placed.

Also, they could get out of putting up the fence if the area is deemed "impractical or ineffective."

Time for a third party. Seriously. Or atleast abolish the senate.

The senate was designed to protect state's rights, but Abraham Lincoln destroyed those, and FDR finished them off. So now all the senate does is bully the larger states.

All senators are elected in a state-wide popular election, when they were supposed to be elected by the house of reps. Same with the President, they thought there would always be five or more candidates, and the house would choose who is President UNLESS one candidate won 51% of the vote, which seemed impossible till they devised the two-party abomination.

So in this issue 20 tiny northeast states get 40 votes, and texas gets 2?

This will lead to very big problems in the future.

A lot of people from both parties need to go back and study basic economics.

Some people are so ignorant that they actually believe that immigration raises unemployment.

First, I guess I can't speak anywhere else but here.

Second, I didn't say that "I" predicted it. Many in politics were talking about the issue being politicking for some time now.

Your time could be spent better.

Malkin predicted it when the bill was first introduced, a month or so ago? I figured it'd get passed, but never funded. Now its funded, so now nothing can REALLY happen.

Exactly. Smart people all over were predicting nothing would happen. The Washington Post article was the final straw.

Why waste a good presidential election issue on a midterm, right?

Well, this election is more important than 2008. The Democrats can essentially win back the government now.

If you mean endless investigations, defunding the wars (cutting and running), I don't see how it'd different if it happened now or later. Country seems to lack the will to fight.

What's the difference, really? Frist wants to give up in Afghanistan. At least the democrats admit they are cut and run, instead of putting on a brave face.

I don't see how even the Democrats, as amazingly incompetent as they are, could possibly fail to win this election -- and the next.

Its been my position that the democrats need to win this election, to let the country know how left they've gone. Put their words into policy and see how many people vote for them. R's winning this cycle makes it harder to win in '08. D's winning this cycle might make sanity creep back in in '08.

So, is it always "cutting and running" when you stop doing something?

Just curious, what are we currently doing that's so left?

Also, if the Dems win (I'll believe it when I see it), what will they do that's so left?

BTW, can someone please tell me what the goal in Iraq is now? And for the love of God, please don't say "to free the Iraqis." :D

They just might. Right now, all they need to do is SHUT UP and let the Republicans keep messing up. However, even that task is proving to be too much.

Where's Ross Perot when you need him? ;)

This is actually very well documented in The Pentagon's New Map.

And no, I won't summarize. You can't fit anything that requires any reasonable amount of intellectual understanding into a 30 second soundbite.

But I will tell you that the author of that book is a Democrat, he's just not an ignorant Democrat.

No, but you can list a couple ultimate points. Example:

    I. Secure oil interests in the region to safeguard against possible ...

    and so forth.

    Have you read that book?
