adsense noobie that doesn't understand the system

    Hi everyone,

I did a random google search on making money via the internet and I came upon a bunch of sites that talk about Adsense.

I've read the stickies and the FAQ, but I honestly do not understand how this works :( I think taking 18 credits a semester for the last 5 has fried my brain.

I understand you make money per click, but do you have to advertise your own website or another?

for example, if I wanted to make money off of "nhl stat leaders," would I make money if I made an ad that went to nhl's page listing it, or would I have to link to my own personal website? This is what I don't get. I saw some link where someone advertised a poster website (that they didn't own) and were making money. I know I'm probably missing some obvious rule either on the faq or google's site, but I would like to know any info I can, such as how much does it cost to advertise on adsense and if someone can give me a sample of what to do because I am sooooo confused :(

    I appreciate any help!!

Basically, you sign up for Adsense and if Google approve your website they give you some code which you copy and paste onto each page of your site. Then you will see ads appearing on your website which magically match the content of your site. So, if your site is about NHL, you'll see ads appearing for NHL-related websites and merchandise - you don't choose the ads yourself, Google does. If any of your visitors click the ads, you'll get paid a few cents per click. Don't click the ads yourself though because that's against Google's Terms of Service. Oh, and welcome to DP!

    Thanks for the welcome :)

So basically, make a website, add a buttload of content on every page of your site, and money per click on your website?

Does google charge you for anything or do you only make money?

There is no charge for using AdSense, that would defeat the purpose! Google pays you per click on ads that they serve via your site.

That's pretty much the gist of it, and you don't have to pay anything to Google.

Don't get too excited though. It takes a lot of time to learn how to earn big bucks with Adsense. At the beginning you might just make a few cents per day. But if you've got a lot of traffic to your website you could earn a few dollars a day from the start. Traffic is everything!

Read this website everyday and learn from it. DP is a great way to learn the ropes and get help.

    No charge.
Google gets a small percentage of the click money and you get the lions share.
I think the exact percentages are secret.
