Hello! Today, I wanna request DP members not to post useless things. I wanted to keep myself out of this controversy because Admin and Mods are there, but today I could not restrain myself from writing it. I urge you not to post anything you don't know about. Here are the few examples of useless posts: Genuine Question: Do you find good results from FB ads? Useless Answer (Post): I haven't tried it yet, will let you know later. (If you haven't tried it yet then why to answer about its results?) Genuine Question: Which CPC is better? Google or Yahoo ? Useless Answer (Post):It depends which one you want to use? (LOL. What is the point of this answer ?) Genuine Question: Google is not indexing few pages of my site, why? Useless Answer (Post):You should wait for few days to see what happens.(How do you know, how long he has waited already?) Genuine Question: I want a article writer to write 10 articles for me - Pls quote. Useless Answer (Post):What will you do with those articles? (It is not your business, you want to write articles or not? That's it !!) So, dears. I think we should stop posting useless crap and keep DP clean, useful and genuine. How? - Report every useless post. - Give -ve Rep to the people for posting crap. - PM them telling that their post is having no value. Thank you !
ATM DP seems to be following the permissive rules = more traffic strategy so although reporting helps a low of the spamers keep under the radar by doing copycat posts . As for - Rep you're gonna go into red yourself in less then a week if you - every spamer .
that's too hard to get out from spamming. Only when DP hire tins of Mod to delete all those posts, not allow signature and remove BST section, then you sure will found that 90% of the "spammer" gone but at the same time. DP will drop at least 50% traffic
What is this "tins of Mod" you are talking of ? Also to be quite honest BST is now the driving force behind DP . Personally I don't know a bigger market for digital products (I haven't researched that to much ) . Funny that you're talking about signature removal since you're the creator of this thread : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1968211
hi i am totally in agreeing with all of you (100%) dears and sirs content is king, traffic is queen!!!!
Removing BTS section is something that is never gonna happen and it has got no sense either as I personally believe it is the backbone of the DP. However, giving a brake to signature section will certainly do wonder. All it requires is just a few posts to have complete access to BTS section but things turn out pretty weirdo when users think of earning via signature sales. More the posts, more the potential income and more the SPAM, of course.
I don't allow signatures on my forum. That keeps away people who post just for the signature links. I think it would be great if DP disables signatures. However, DP is a webmaster forum and I guess majority of the members won't like the idea of not having signature links. I agree. When I had registered at DP, there was no BST section. Trading in services/intangibles was done within the main forum. Slowly the forum has metamorphosed from a content-based forum to a trading forum. There are hardly any real experts left on the forum now (compared to 4-5 years back). Even those who are left, don't post much. Whenever I press the "What's new" button, majority of the posts are either from the BST section or general chat section (both of which I am usually not interested in). I wish Shawn would split the forum into two distinct areas - BST and content-based. LOL. .
I have noticed one thing more regarding this thread. Spammers are not posting in this thread because they know this thread is about them. Only the reputed members or members with good number of posts are replying to this thread. Haha ! Spammers know where they stand?
I see two points of spamming in DP. get access to the marketplace. - as I remember, the marketplace require 30 posts to start a new thread. sell signature. - some people make posts to increase their post count for sell the signature. but buyers will be disappointed because they won't stay longer in the forum. it has happened to me.. but there is no exact rule to stop these kinda posts.
It's obvious what are the reasons for most "useless posts", it's because the forum rules encourage to post more, minimum amount of posts needed for some sections or to post links, and signatures. It's a two-sided sword, if you don't require some minimum amount of posts then you'll have more spammers in certain sections like BST, if you require 10-30 posts then you'll have more spam(useless posts) in pure content sections too. Then if you disabled all kind marketing and signatures the overall traffic would surely go down. It's a common problem on many forums. One way to think of this system is that it's like you're selling advertising space on this forum, in exchange of getting some more content here, but obviously the content quality will vary alot. Also it's not always the answers that are useless, but the questions/OPs can be too vague too and impossible to give direct answer.
