Microsoft has proven that it wants to provide consumers and enterprise customers with a new-look operating system that delivers the same kind of functionality it brought to the market with Windows Mobile. So far, the company has been somewhat successful. In fact, recent reports suggest that Windows Phone 7 is sold out in many areas around Europe. Do you believe that Windows Phone 7 can beat down iOS and Android in the end? What's your opinion?
It's simple "No". Android is really hot already beat RIM and iOS and WP7 is not good enough to beat Android or other OS.
Windows cannot compete with Android for sure because Android have already stable in the market. For me, Android and iOS is in the top now. The lowest of all is Symbian OS! LOL
You don't know how many phones were created. If they had two in stores, selling out would be easy. As usual, Microsoft is years late to the market, has little to offer in their app store, and developers just aren't interested. Microsoft is trying to bring the desktop to mobile (using IE7 no less) including all its baggage. It's not going to work.
Wow, it's amazing that you guys are counting out Microsoft so quickly. The smartphone market is still a very small piece of the entire cellphone market. There is still tons and tons of market share to be had and Microsoft has tons of partnerships with existing developers so you can never count out MS
What part of the cell phone market do you think Microsoft will participate in besides the smartphone sector?
Microsoft had the good idea to scrap the Windows Mobile platform and start from scratch. But I'd have to agree with the comment above. Microsoft was just too late in the market... its got a lot of catching up to do, which it will have to...
And reality sets in: Despite all the statements of "strong interest" by ATT and T-Mobile and Microsoft, no long lines circling the block as for the iPhone or Android.
I think Microsoft is going in the right direction with Windows Phone 7 but I think they will be cometitive once Windows Phone 8 is out. I am really looking to this day.
Its Android everywhere, and all the tablets and smart phones are stable using it, WP7 is not that fast and robust its a NO for me.
Financial news letter "The Street" reports Windows phone first day sales of 40,000 units compared to the iPhone's pre-order sales of 600,000.
It's still to early to say whether Windows Phone 7 will beat other platform or not. Microsoft will do anything they can to get their market share back. If not with Windows Phone 7, it will be with the next version for sure. Time will tell whether they will be successful or not. - Dynashox -
I don't see M$ ever being the leader in smartphones. They simply are not market leaders. However, they can definitely capture a significant share of the corporate market. Tightly integrating mobile device management with tools and processes already in place for desktop and notebook management gives M$ a major advantage. And corporate buyers will pay more for a lesser product if it 'plays well' with the rest of their systems.
I think, Microsoft isn't a competitor for Android, at least for now, because Google's smartphone is indeed cool. However, I believe that if Microsoft keeps the developments in this area, then it has chances to beat nowadays leaders. In the end, this company is the one that launched Windows and after being at market for so long, it has to know what users want...
Microsoft has never created anything on their own that has become dominant in the field except Windows. Even Office was a bought product. The only problem with that thought is Microsoft is at least 4 times late to the market behind Blackberry, iPhone and Android. Being first to market is a huge advantage. Being fourth makes you an afterthought.
I haven't written that Microsoft created something, I just wrote that it launched... And taking in account that Windows is dominant among computers all over the world, I think it is enough for Microsoft to be popular with that in order to achieve other goals. I know many people who didn't even hear about Android and stuff, however, I haven't met yet a person who doesn't know what Windows is. So, if you tell such people that they have a choice to buy an Android or a smartphone from Microsoft, I am sure they will choose the second device...
