    Hi guys!

I badly need your opinion on this one.

I bought 3 domains from someone here in DP. He pushed the domains to me first to show good faith. I was delighted of course. He insisted I pay him via personal payments to avoid the paypal fees to which I agreed because I already have the domains in my account. What could possibly go wrong, so I thought.

After a few minutes from payment, the person I transacted with sent me a pm saying his DP account was hacked and that he did not sell domains. In the thread someone claiming to be the owner now wants his domains back.

Now what should I do. In the first place i cannot file paypal dispute. Second, how can I be sure that the person claiming ownership of the domain is the real owner as he claims?

I also heard about scammers employing this same technique. They sell domains, then claim there is unauthorized transfer of domains, then the registrar favors them and they get their domains back. BUYERS IN GOOD FAITH are left with no money and no domains. Buyers in GOOD FAITH lack protection here.

I still have the domains in my account and I have contacted the alleged real owner and asked him to reimburse the money I paid for the domain. He said he won't pay. I tried to explain to him we are both victims here but haven't heard from him since over 10 hours ago. If his account was hacked as he claims, I too am a BUYER in GOOD Faith!

What if this is all just part of a scam tactic?
I sent payment to this email address p.mostajab841@yahoo.com with the name "James Sandoval" *(which i suspect is just an alias).

Please guys i need your opinion on this.

    Thank you!

*** i hope i posted this in the right section***

if you have the domains in your possession and you have paid, then keep them.

If the registrar gives the domains back the original owner, then bad luck, welcome to the world.

I will do that.. Thank you!

So far up to now the person claiming as the owner has not contacted me again. I will leave the matter to him and the registrar to settle. If the registrar sides to him, then it will remove the domains from my account. I will just wait then.. Thank you so much for sharing your opinion on this one.

Thank you for your views. yes i paid for the domains and there was no way at all for me to figure it out during the sale that the domains belong to a different owner. The real ownership of the domain is yet to be contested. The registrar will determine the rightful owner. all i can do now is wait.

I can't call Paypal because that would be very expensive. However I have sent an email to Paypal. But i do fear that since I paid via personal payment I might still not get my money back. Unless perhaps if there are many of us who will send a complaint against this guy to Paypal.

By the way, can you provide the link to the thread where another person was scammed.. Thanks.

Wrong section. You can go to the BUY and SELL section and advertise your domain for sale there.

Update guys, Paypal has responded to my complaint. They said the best way is to communicate with the merchant and ask for my money back. But this "James Sandoval" is not responding to my emails. I'm still hoping that Paypal will return my money back after an investigation. wish me luck!

GODADDY has removed the domains I bought from my account.

    Money gone. Domains gone!

What protection do buyers in good faith have against scams like this!

What a bad news for Christmas! huhuhu

Well, your mistake for trying to trick the system. The Paypal fees are there for a reason, they have costs involved with both transferring the money but also to bring them back to you if a fraudulent transaction occur. You choose to cheat, together with thte seller, and bypass these fees but still ask for the full help from Paypal? Help that me and others are paying for, whenwe do NOT cheat, and instead pay full price for our transactions.

I think you deserve a lesson, to lose your money will teach you good to not try to cheat and avoid paying the fees associated. If it's you or the seller is regardless, it's still paid out of the money you paid. One should never agree to such a condition, only scammers on DP use that loop hole. Don't fall for it and learn the lesson!

I accept my mistake on this one. I totally forgot about the buyer protection thing. I am not an experienced buyer. I just even thought that whatever payments you made using paypal is protected. BUT BUT BUT I never intend to trick Paypal's system. In fact I have done most of my transactions not using personal payments. So please don't accuse me of "choosing to cheat". Cheating is never in my vocabulary. Please don't jump into conclusion! I made the transaction in good faith! I am here to ask for help and at the same time report this scammer for everyone's knowledge, so people will not fall into the same trap I am in right now. Please don't sermon me on my mistake. It is given and I have acknowledge that and for that I feel sorry for myself.

Lesson learned the hard way indeed! A victim of unjust enrichment by some person who profits in defrauding other people.

I may or may not get my money back. But I find comfort in knowing that Paypal will never protect a scammer! I have sent proof to Paypal!

    Thank you.

    Thank you!

Yes I will be very careful next time. That's why when I intend to buy a domain I always ask for proof of ownership now. I have heard of reputable DP members' accounts getting hacked too then scammers use these hacked accounts to victimize innocent DP members especially the newbies. Well, there is "karma" and whoever does bad things to others will always reap the fruits of their actions.

    Here's the thing.

    1. You need to ask owner/mod of digital point, to track IP login of the user who said they have their account stolen. If the time stamp matches, and IP matches, there was no hack done. You have been lied to.

    2. You will need to tell us which paypal address you paid to?
What is the address on email address of whois for the domain names?
What is the address and name of real owner?

    3. What is the domain in question?
Some member will have access to history of whois and can help to determine if it has changed or not and know exactly to trace back to theft.

    4. Are you trying to hijack some domain names and asking for help figuring out how to get away ?
Because you are not providing complete detail, rather partial detail, I am suspecting that you might have something to hide.

    5. When you buy domain names what do you check?
Any communication with the "hacker" ?

It will help if you post communication with the hacker public. Unless the hacker is the owner or you are hacker.
Why not post any communication public?

I do that if I were you.
Post domain names, communication with hacker to the public, date and time relevancy, and indicate anything that might be helpful. If you don't, not much help.

    thank you platom..

I have emailed paypal about it.
It's hard to get the money back because it was not covered by the BUYER PROTECTION.
    But still worth a try..

    Thanks..

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Godaddy has completed the investigation and confirmed that there was a hacking of GODADDY account of the original
owner. The domains are returned to the rightful owner now.

Lol.. I am not a hacker nor do I intend to hijack someone's domain!

All proof, like the communication that took place, the Transaction ID, etc have been sent to Paypal for
    their investigation.

I am just waiting for paypal's response.

    Anyway, thank you.
