I've just launched my first website. FunnyBoneWorld.com I need some help and direction of where to go to promote my site, I can't afford adwords or paid advertisements right now. I have started trying to post in some forums, but neowin banned me right away and all I did was contribute something to a post, just answered it and had my site in my signature and I don't want this to continue happening. I have a facebook fan page and a twitter account (but again needs promoted) I've started following people who are following other funny sites and started getting some followers that way. but I've got a kid 1 month away from being born and have to work 8 hours a day and its hard to find time to try to get followers on twitter, recruit to my fan page, and post in forums. I guess my question is, please give me some tips, am I going about it the right way? Is there a better way? Also, what is the best facebook and twitter strategy you can suggest? Site Information: I want users to upload funny videos, pictures, and any ringtones (non-copyrighted hopefully of course) and share them on facebook, twitter, etc to get viewers, my users can even upload videos from youtube just by entering the youtube url on the upload form. So far what I've been getting is a good amount of views, I just released on November 1, and I have had over 700 video views, 200 image views, and over 300 ringtone views, but I'm not converting any into active members that will contribute anything worth having them around. I have contests offering them money, you can see on my contests page. Any help appreciated, again this is my first time creating a web site and I don't want it to fail.
Your site looks good. Unfortunately, building a website and promoting takes a lot of work. You are doing good with the amount of views you have. You can try putting up youtube videos on having the link in your description. You can also post them as video responses to other videos and put your link there. That way you can get targeted traffic from people that like funny videos.
maybe you can try... article marketing video marketing... blog commenting forum signature but keep link building to your site is the best.....Google is the best source of traffic...you need to make sure that your site ranked well in Google..Once your site rank well in google you will see the traffic flow to your site...
Yeah... I'd also suggest posting some videos on youtube... If you post enough goos videos, some of them might go viral and then you'll suddenly see huge traffic spikes
Thanks for the tips, i have created a youtube channel and started adding some content now, and its good to know I was pretty much taking a good approach to the marketing.
Next step could be to make a facebook page and posting some of the videos there... I'm no facebook expert, but I know that it can really help you with traffic, if you know what you're doing...
I've got a facebook fan page set up and I am posting the videos on there too, I also have a twitter account. I have about 20 facebook likers so far and 50 twitter followers. I've been following people on twitter that follow other funny sites and thats how I've been getting followers. Does anyone have any tips on getting twitter and or facebook likers/followers?
Yes. you have a nice site! How much custom design did you need to do? Maybe you could promote it to other webmasters.

yeah i owuld probably stay away from PPC at the moment. Start by emailing everyone you know and everyone on your facebook page and ask them to share with friends. Youtube will also be a great source. use tubemogule to get people from many different sites.. Article market could be ok. FOrums and social media is probably a great place to start tho
hahaha I just watched the video of the chick face planting. that funny s. You need to have buttons to make it easier for people to share. Use facebook SHARE not like. Like is pretty crap. Best to use both. Have stumble buttons. Your site has a chance to get loads of traffic from stumble. Digg too. Submit your stuff to all the social bookmark sites. Get friends to digg too.
Under every video, picture, game, and ringtone I have the like, tweet, and share buttons, the share button allows you to share to any social site. Also on the bottom of the page on every page in the toolbar you can share right through Facebook chat or a wall post. You can chat with facebook friends directly from the site and drag and drop a video into the chat. Also if you select more than 8 words on the site it will pop up an option to share the page on facebook.
I pretty much changed every page in the script in some way and added the games section from mochimedia, they get auto posted by a script I wrote and can add games every day.

Twitter follower count doesn't mean anything unless they are "loyal followers" You can have 50,000 but if their not loyal it reall doesn'y matter! -C
First off congrats on taking the first step, the thing with posting in forums, is some particular forums don't want any links to signatures unless you have been an active member, maybe give it a month of two before adding a signature, that way they can see that you want to be a participant in the forum
