What you think about the new way of google search, when it automatically give you suggestion (by completing the term you are writing) does it mean that some of the valuable search terms are dead and we need to target more general terms?

certainly not, although you may need to start thinking more about the order in which people will type the phrase.

well eventually when more people adopt instant ... the laziness will spread and long tail keywords will be dead... so ppl will be forced to focus on main keywords...

Especially the long tailed keywords where a good site is already covered the long tail along with the short keyword..

No its not dead my friend..to be honest with you if most of your traffic is coming from the search engine..you are in trouble..so don't worry about that, just keep marketing and good things will come..believe me it will work its way out..

Would you care to elaborate? I get 88% of my 90,000 monthly unique visitors from the search engines. That is a result of diligent keyword research and other SEO on all my pages. I'm quite happy with that search engine traffic, which has continued over a number of years.

    I find your comment puzzling(?).

It has some effect because it displays a keyword prediction. And the most common concern would be a decrease in Long-Tail searches.

With instant on, one can't have long tail search result. That's the reason why long tail keyword will stay alive.

There are certain user's query that needs long tail keywords and in such cases google instant will not help. So one need to make it off and keep on searching.

So long tail keyword will be alive until we have an option of making the instant off.

Spot on Jim4767. Careful keyword research and appropriate marketing will surely help. I get pretty around 80%-90% of the traffic from search engines and since the introduction of instant my traffic increased.
    Do research and work hard.

I've been dealing with this issue for quite a while now, and I am glad to see it dying out. You can read more about what I have to say in this on the blogpost I published - Instant Search and Long Tail keywords
