If I didn't live in the US, I would surely pick Australia. Sydney is the most beautiful city I've seen, I also like Brisbane and Adelaide was very nice and quiet while still being a decent size city.

Why would you consider leaving the US?

I would say the UK would be one of my top priorities. Never been there but been told it's very similar to Australia and the girls dig Australians. Very close to everywhere in Europe as well. Just a shame it's so damn expensive, well London anyway.

What about Costa Rica? I don't know about the tax thing with them though, but I believe it's fairly low. The inland ranges are cooler, and you can fly to Cancun, or Miami for good health care (lots of US and Canadian expats in the Yucatán area)

You forgot the scorching heat in most urban areas, dirt and feces on streets & illiterate population. And the shiv sena;)

Whatever you do, Do Not move to India! Don't say I didn't warn you...

And oh, internet connectivity is very overpriced. You will pay more for bandwidth than for petrol.

Oooohhh... I don't know why I never thought of the Philippines...

    • Climate is pretty hot, isn't it?
    • Government isn't too stable, but it's not too crazy. Must avoid the Communist rebels and the Islamist rebels.
    • I do not believe that overseas income is taxed!
    • How is medical care?
    • Shopping looks good -- both old and new world.
    • Real estate prices look good -- and quality looks good.
    • Prices for goods seems fine, but I only barely looked.
English as the second national language is a major plus. The wife speaks a half dozen languages fluently. I can order beer in three languages.

The downsides are terrorist activity (both from Marxists and Islamists), disease (dengue fever, malaria, bacterial diarrhea, hepatitis A, and typhoid fever are noted) and crime. I'm pretty unconcerned about any of those -- but the wife feels 100% differently than I do.

Another vote for Australia. (Didn't know about the no tax on o/s income - thx!)

Choose Melbourne or Sydney (Queensland is waaaay too humid)

I've lived in both Melb and Syd, weather wise, Sydney rocks.

I visited there about ten years ago, maybe things have changed. The main road around Manila, EDSA, made the worst freeway in Los Angeles look like the autobahn on a Sunday morning. The traffic was un-bleeping-ridiculous. And then there were the squatters, every where you looked there were squatters and I hear they could get electrical and phone lines quicker than everyone else since squatters were the labor for the utilities.

Crime was fun. I took a city tour from the InterContinental Hotel in Makati and got to see an armed bank robber running away from the police as he fired shots in the air.

    How about the Canary Islands?

The Isle of Man would be the place if you have an online gambling site, they have very low taxes too.
