Is blog commenting a Spamming

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by fahadkhan14, Nov 7, 2010.

I have a question for all SEOs who use this forum. I am performing research and writing a brief article on a link building factor "blog commenting".

"Is blog commenting a spamming?" If so then why it can not be winded up from Search Engine Optimization industry? Because people's purpose is just to put link of their websites. They read only a few lines of that blog and then comment.

I will add accurate and genuine answers with the names in my article at my SEO blog.

    Regards

well if you include your sites/links without any reason in your comments, then it is a sort of spamming

Genuine blog commenting is obviously not spamming.
Blog commenting using Scrapebox or other software / scripts IS 100% spamming (no matter how meaningful / spinned / unique) the comments are.

The relevant comment towards the topic also considered good for SEO! mostly people looks to give spam oriented comments only few of them submit natural comments

It really comes to to best intentions. Blog commenting can start some good discussions but it has been hijacked by spammers. Luckily, blog owners can "nofollow" their comments which has sort of helped the issue.

As stated above, providing relevant content is spamming.
For example saying "Great Post! You should check out www.myaffiliatelink.com"
Or even just saying "Great Post!" with your affiliate link in your signature.
Make good relevant posts with your affiliate link in the signature.

    NO! That is spam!!

You don't need to add a link into the comment. Your name is the link.. and why is "relevant content" spamming?

Well its not spamming because owners of a certain blogs also monitor those comments and if they find it efficient and substantial then those comments will remain. Bloggers also need commentators by the way,

and I think the responsible for every comment is the is the owner not the commentator/visitors. so if he let spammers attack his website by not moderating comments that will be a spam site. And I think if you feel that commenting is spamming, just delete the comment page.

Yes thats what I'm talking about and I disagree about you suggested to delete the comment page its just that you will defeat the purpose of having a blog anyways.

Well if the comments are genuine answers and relevant to the topic of blog post, then I think it's not a spam.

I have been allowing comments from my blog if I know that such topic are relevant to the article. I dont consider it blog commenting a spam if such comments are needed or in topic.

It depends since we know that there are plenty spammers that just drop links.

But as what Matt Cutt's states that do follow blog comments do pass page rank and are of value, but like all links, the amount of "juice" they pass is dependent on the number of other links on the page. So, putting your blog comment at the end of a post with 10's or even 100's of other comments is not very valuable, but adding a comment to a post with just a few other comments can be valuable. As it affirms that the right kind of blog comments can still be a useful component of our link building plans.

its a spam or at least sort of. i'd like to think they they read few lines but if thier comment isn't just related to the post. i better trash thier comment.

Blog commenting is one of the many ways to spam. Are they all spam? off course not.
Why people are still doing it? Some people believes that millions of spammy links will triumphed over few good quality links
Is it true? maybe not, but if youre competing for are well know spam infested keywords then its all become a number game.

The reason behind the blog commenting is that the blog itself gets the popularity in terms of search engines when people comment on blogs.
