How many anchor texts?

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by andrej, Nov 7, 2010.

I know it is not good to build all links to my site with the same anchor text. How many anchor texts should I have at minimum? I want to focus on just 3 keywords for my site. Is it OK if I build all links to my site with 3 anchor texts? Won't I get a Google penalty?

Different anchor text for different sections, there is no number rule! The more number of time "single anchor" gets a link.. The better it gets. Having too many anchor text for a section / page will just add to the confusion of the SE.

I don't think that if you use the same anchor text Google will penalize you. Personally i use just one anchor text for my site , and Big G haven't yet penalized me.

    Thank you.

There is no magical number here, it's completely up to you. You will not receive a "penalty" from any search engine for using the same anchor text over and over ~ it just doesn't make sense to focus on one key phrase only. However, the more key phrases you focus on per website page - the more work you'll have cut out for yourself. ;)

Organize your anchor text relevant to the page you are promoting. I write articles using raw html files. For each article I promote I choose 3 words or phrases to use as the anchor text.

Wrong! If all links have the same anchor text search engines get highly suspicious that you build them yourself. Happened to a person I know that distributed free wordpress themes en masse all with the same anchor text pointing to his website. He got a mighty Google slap for that and was out of the index for quite some time. As a rule of thumb I use my domain name (which contains my main keyword) in 75% of the cases and the rest I vary wildly. I even include the odd 'click here' anchor text in order to make things looking naturally, SY

I have a keyword that I extent to a 3 word phrase (classed as long tail!) and I target my site with this.

If you were selling designer shoes, you could use:

    Designer shoes
    Cheap designer shoes
    Designer shoe discounts

I have noticed recently that if your niche has a plural, meaning if you added an 's to your keyword Google and Yahoo are including both together. In this example shoe...

if you have 100 links, and 95 of them have the same anchor, that will be fishy

You can have 3 anchor texts as long as you are building your links naturally.

I agree with you. At first, I use to vary my anchor texts, but then I realized that this method made my linkbuilding efforts divided by my anchor text variations. So I've started to use only one anchor text for page, till I reached #1 in Google.

It really does not matter how many anchor texts you are useing as long as you are not building a mass amount of links to one anchor text. Google does not want to see all of the links to your site coming from the same anchor text, this does look natural. Try to evenly build links across the keywords you are focusing on.

Try to use as many anchor texts as you can for not to being considered as spamming a given keyword...but no as much to loose the impact of your main keyword...the number depends on how many sites you are using for placing your links I guess

it defends to your content, if you have a very long content, it is ok to exceed for 3 anchor text, the same with small contents.
