I've just installed Vanilla the 'open-source, standards-compliant, multi-lingual, fully extensible discussion forum for the web'...looks good, very web 2.0, but I've not decided if I'll use it yet...anyone got any experience of it that they'd like to share? Thanks bg
never used it before. just looked at it. it's... interesting, but almost too different from the standard forum that it may scare users away. reminds me of the wordpress forums in the layout, a bit.
Why do you state "non-forum-based", Vanilla is according to it marketing ...'[a] fully extensible discussion forum for the web'?
I’ve installed Vanilla on my machine to try it out and really liked it. I think what DFischer wanted to say is that the basic functionality of the forum is different compared to more traditional scripts like phpbb or vBulletin.
Found some examples>> http://lussumo.com/community/discussion/787/finding-other-vanillapowered- forums/ ...not checked them yet myself...
The link is broken, try HERE From what I can see it looks like a good solution for a smaller solution, but for larger ones it may well become confusing.
I am going to test the software this weekend. I think it would be really awesome for sites that need a discussion type of framework but not for a forum. Leave that to the major players like Vb
I’ve always imagined this software on a social networking kind of site. The colors are bright, the layout is very simple and it is very easy to use.
I'm going to give it a go...let you know how I get on... There seem to be a lot of useful add-ons so there's obviously a community out there... http://lussumo.com/addons/
Meh, useful? Not really. I wanted a specific rss feed module and no one in the community wanted to contribute to the idea. I doubt it would have been that hahrd for an experienced programmer. Was a let down, so I just moved away from it. Meh.
