There are. Use some Skyscrapper formats. Also, it'll be good if you can put in a large rectangle before the beginning of single posts. As a rule of thumb, it's always better to add your adcode above the fold (top half of your page).

Yes. Of Course! I can see you are using wordpress for your blog. Goto your WP Backend > Appearance > Editor (for the Theme Editor) Select "single.php" and find the line which says <? the_content(); ?> RIGHT before that line, add your Ad. Code. That's it.
Your site is content rich with a good niche for Adsense. You'll need to try different ad combinations to check which is working best for you..... try two large rectangle between the posts and one vertical banner on right pannel and mix some link units... Good luck

In addition to the right side, I've had success with the banner centred across the top. Chose background similar to your page so the ad "blends" and is not too obstrusive.
Place your adsense ads on the upper part on your page. A place that the visitor can directly see the ads.
