    Hey guys,

I am new to this forum and from what I've been reading it's has motivated me to keep on going. I think I'm going to start focusing on earning from adsense now.

    My last three months:

I been working so hard building and promoting my two poker affiliated sites. One site offers free gift if player sign poker room account through me and the other we make a $50 deposit into new players account (from my own money).
Early September, business was starting to pick up, everything looks good, but just recently US government put a bill on gambling online making it illegal to gamble online. That took a big chunk out my business because 90% of players who signed up through me are from US.
The site I make the deposit for new poker players was on a rev share and after the bill was passed, my players are now dead. From the $5000 I invested into the players, I only got $500 back. Before the bill was passed, I thought earning $500 was good. I knew it will increase dramatically after the first few month because % of the $ was taken out for the new players first deposit bonus. I was so happy and excited for the residual income I was buiding. Not until the bill was passed and most poker sites banning US Players. When I heard the news, I was so stressed and depressed!

What got me more stressed was that my dad lost his job at the Mill which he had for 17years(had it since we immigranted to Canada). He's in his 50's and his english is very poor. Chances of him getting another good paying job is very slim. Parents are so stessed about the house mortage. That's why I moved back home to help them out.

When I saw my poker sites business were picking up, I promised my parents they had nothing to worrie about and I will take care of their mortage. But now the poker bill has been passed, I am so stressed and confused. I've put in over $10,000 into my sites, and saw may $2000 in return. Now that the bill has passed, I'm not going to lie to you, there is nothing. Now i'm $8000 in credit card debt.

I would market the business in Europe, but I just have the feeling Canada will send out the same bill and make it illegal to promote any poker sites. I am not going to take that chance and risk further into getting into more debt and stay away from affiliating with gambling sites for good.

I was ready to call it quits and ready to pack up my bags and go up north to work at the oil riggs. But not until I came accross digitalpoint forum, and reading all the huge success from ordinary people in this forum, I gained the urge to start building my adsense empire.

I am not posting my story for people to feel sorry for me. I am posting it because I need to get it off my chest and it will motivate me to succeed and to never quit. I think this forum is the best one out there for webmasters, because people in this forum help eachother and supports everyone new or old.

I am hoping by joining this forum, I will pick up a lot of ideas and inspiration to help me succeed. Especially from people like Shoemoney and others who have succeed.

I am sorry for making this post so long.

My journey begins: OCT 5 2006.

ouchs, I admire your spirit. You have faced some sudden setbacks (the US regulations regarding gambling sites) and I know it has affected a few people that I know in a severe way. So I feel for you. To add to it, your Dad's job loss just adds to the mix. In combination, it must send your head spinning, wondering what to do about it. Been there, done that. Many times.

The good thing is that I see that you are a fighter. You don't give up. You see a problem and rather than running and hiding in a corner, you work on how to overcome the obstacle. Good for you. Most people don't have the intestinal fortitude to do that. But you seem to have fire in your belly, so you are up to the challenge. Very very good.

I hope that making your post has gotten it all off your chest, and that it has made you feel a bit better. I realize that you are up for a real challenge given your family situation. However, if you decide to go the Adsense route to help solve the problem, you couldn't have picked a better place than DP to get help. There are many many members here who will be able to help you in building a good Adsense income.

Don't give up, keep the faith, and keep believing in yourself. Winners never quit, and quitters never win.

    Vito

Hi, sorry to hear about your situation and your loss but let me tell you you're not the only one who's lost money trying to make money online. When I first started which was about early this year I put in thousands (on credit cards as well) and they pretty much went down the drain. For the past few months I have been on the positive side (I'm making money) though and things are going to stay that way and are improving on a month to month basis. I felt like giving up many times initially, I was pissed, I cursed, and I threw things when it just wasn't working out. I just wanted to quit...that would have been a big mistake.

It seems like you already have some experience in getting a website off the ground so I really don't think it should be a problem for you as long as you're patient and take your time. Also the gambling is a very competitive market so I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to stay in that market especially because of the recent US law that was passed. And I guess the hard lesson learned here too is not to put all your eggs in one basket.

Bottom line is read all the info you can, start building some sites and keep at it, you will succeed. Don't give up too early as the seeds may just be starting to sprout and success could be around the corner, good luck :)

Right now I work part time to help out with my parents mortgage, and work full time building my sites.

I do not want to be in the same situation as my parents, So I rather have money problems now..... Work hard now and soon or later it will pay off!

The way I always looked at it when I first start was like this :

If you got to college to get a career lets say

School (college) could easily cost you anywhere from $40k - 200K depending on profession.

And then after that , you still have to show up to work to earn your pay

So , Loosing a few hundred , or thousand dollars in this biz happens,

Think of it as a college tutition

Thats what I did , It cost to learn things, so spending money like Mortal said above is kinda like paying for school.

The nice part is once you get going things grow fast,

Keep reading and asking questions, you will get it

    Hope this helps

PPC (the other PPC-- pills, porn and casinos) are very volatile, very dangerous, and rarely bring in long-term profits.

go with plain old vanilla content, but put lots of work into it. it's slower. it's definitely slower. however, the earnings tend to be more consistant and reliable. in the long term, most people will probably make more money in the boring, everyday, vanilla websites category.

I have had moneybyauction.com (if this violate the rules, let me know and i'll remove it) for a year and half now, I work on it for a bit and put it to the side when the poker craze came along.

When I check my adsense account the other day, I saw $50 in the account. I was a little surprise but happy (main reason I decided to research on adsense) I know this site has huge potential because It also made $200 in the first two months through CJ Commissions.
I am going to first start tweaking this site and start adding juicey contents to it.

Right now I am in the process of reshaping the site.

If you guys have any suggestions for the site let me know. :)

Oil rigg ?? I may get directions from you later.
I understand what your going through.. really.. I have been spending a year promoting WagerX.com. I just wrote a small article on the bill you were referring to.. Here it is.. Port Security Bill ..

    http://www.wagerx.com/articles/Port-Security-Bill-and-WagerX.htm

I won't get started on the political outburts.. and inner temper tantrums I've been having.. 10% of the US population plays poker.. geesh.. anyway..

My plan is to market outside the US.. and am rejecting ALL US players.. just to be on the safe side. Hopefully, it will work out in CHina.. Japan etc.. I'm crossing my fingers..

anyway.. the best of luck to you.. and keep your chin up.

I didn't read much past this part.

What is the fun of making a cookie cutter gambling site? Is gambling your actual hobby? Or are you just chasing the money?

If you're going to put all your effort into a job you have no interest in, why not just get a regular office job?

Like others said, I'd imagine a lot more people would enjoy your site about something you liked and could write interesting stuff about, and could provide an interesting slant on things.

When I think of a poker site, I just think of ugly flashing banners that say "$500,000,000!!!" in green and black and orange. Yuck!

Get an office job and work there 9-5 for the rest of my life and always having to worry about money, I DON"T THINK SO!

I like working at home, working and building websites so I am going to stick with it and never give up. It will pay off soon or later! The only way for my success is be motivated, work hard, and enjoy what I like doing!

Poker was my hobbie, but I will drop the sites due to the new laws..

Right now I concentrating on building adsense websites.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I notice the more you submerse yourself in making money online, the more you begin to discover little hints here and there that end up working for you. I've noticed that nobody flat out tells anyone how they make their money, instead, they give out hints. It's piecing these hints together that is the challenge.
