Bad is not getting any members at all, but 2K in 6 months is definitely not good. Look at it this way... if you start small, you're wasting time when you can start big gain market share faster.

My only forum was doing about 100 joins a day, with some 90K registered. I closed it cause forums are very low money makers.

You could try hosting a contest with those quality posters already on your site. The winner, gets a free banner ad or something of that nature in exchange. Build links also.

It's far from false. The only "greatness" comes from the number of users. DP doesn't even have much of a front end, it's just this forum they have going for them. They could be making far more, but instead they focus on a forum community, which is the worst resource to use to generate revenue. It's a proven fact, you can't argue with it.

The bulletin board revenue model is very weak, which is why no board has dominated the internet. If bulletin boards where strong, facebook wouldn't have started. I was running a general off topic forum, which I was donating my own money to run cause off topic forums are impossible to niche.

IMO, you don't have anything to debate me with and have no point to stand on. Your advice/quote is just a truism.

10 cents a post is the Going rate, its NOT high.

But im sure you'll have a differn't opinion than me.....maybe you should give me some respect as a senior member of this forum. Ive been on DP since 2006 and have over 2000 posts. I've also been online since 1994.

You could devise a series of topics, and invite people to write about those topics, and get a prize (or payment) for the best one/s, nothing fuels participation than a prize on offer

Here is what I would do, and really the only effective way to grow a forum. Do not put the forum as your homepage. Instead, create content that brings people to the site and encourages them to post.

Another thing you want to consider is that the bulletin board format isn't very effective. You may want to go custom, something very unique that no other has.

Write some articles, make a signature in other forums and post there. Find some resources on getting traffic. It is going to be hard to get good, quality members so you'll have to work hard.
