    Hello,

i had a few sites hosted at byethost - free hosting.

i contacted their support and they told me that my account was attacked so they closed it.

now i dont know what to do, upgrade my account and maybe i will be able to transfer the subdomain to the new account.

or just leave them and find another host?

why if my account is attack so it is close and i loose my subdomain? it is really not fair.

i guess i have bad experience with them, but still i need a specific subdomain that i have on their servers because it is a site that get lots of traffic.

    can someone please advice?

That's a tough one. If your site really was attacked sometimes the only option the host has is to shut the site down. It may seem unfair to you, but a serious DDOS attack can cost the host $1000's of dollars to deal with in terms of bandwidth costs and paying for support from their upstream providers. I'm sure you wouldn't be happy being presented with a $5000 invoice for your "free" hosting.

Of course, it depends whether your site really was attacked. Some hosts will shut you down for using excess resources, and this is probably more likely to happen with a free host. I can't say whether your host was being forthright with you or not regarding an attack, but if your site was attacked once then it will probably happen again, and if it was using excess resources it will continue to do this when you move to a new host.

You'll need to try to find out more details about why they shut you down. Only then can someone give you some advice that will help you out.

    thanks for the reply,

so if i take my domain and host my site on another host will it solve the problem?

and even if i use paid hosting i will never be secure from those attacks which i have no idea how and why it happened?

    thanks

You can just leave them if you have your own domain.

You cannot take away the subdomain from them.

sub-domains are created on a domain, which means wherever you host your domain, you can create them again and just upload your content, its so simple

I understand the word "free" is still fascinating, but currently there are thousands of hosting companies offering their paid hosting plans at $1/$2/$3 per month, and you can easily be paid back from advertising. Paid account has more protection, and more "rights". If someone attacks a free hosting account, they just close and stop, what you want, it's just free, you should thank us. But if a paid account is attacked, they can close it, but at least allow you to take your files, your sites, move on another hosting or on another account on their hosting too. Even if you pay $2/mo.

Now a days hosting is so cheap, than someone want to have free hosting, with no feature and no support, you can get a good plan in very low cost, and with that low cost, you get support and many more feature, which you cannot expect in free host, and if something like this happens, a good paid host will fully help you to solve the problem, and if it can't be, than you should get at-least a proper backup of your sites, so you can move your sites properly wherever you want

Each new web hosting service you will be intersted in you will need to try and only then understand if that is good one for you or not.

I also use HostGator and I must say it is one of the best hosts I ever been with. 24/7 phone support is tough to come across these days.

Hosting is indeed cheap and you are always better off with your own domain. Right now the hos I'm with are running a promotion, their starter package for a full year plus a free domain (.com) your first year, all for just $17 total. PM me for the coupon code, only 100 available, once they're gone, the offer is over.

With your own domain you will never be in the situation again with potentially losing out on your built up traffic. So if you're earning money online, be smart and spend a little to protect your income. Don't use free services if te paid version is just a few dollars, it's like asking for trouble.

With free hosting, you get what you pay for. Even a cheap shared account will be a better option.
