Here is how you do it.....take a loan for a cool million bucks....build a huge/awesome website.....buy links.....hire people to link build, social media, write content, and so on! What you don't have a million bucks? Go for longer-tailed keywords then!
You need patience and hard work Things certainly don't happen overnight but through a constant link building campaign you can get there, just start building a wide variety of links on a daily basis of say 5 a day. Start going through the lists in my signature.
Ive gotten several sites into the top 10 ranking. Most of these sites are ranking top 10 against 40,000,000+ results. So I know lots about seo. First, make sure your site is compliant with the on-page seo factors. Kind of a long list but it basically spells out exactly what google looks for in on-page attributes. Easiest rank boosters are in there. Just focusing on on-page won't do the trick however. The other factor is off-page seo. Basically this means, "who is linking to your site." Google indexes the entire web and knows exactly who is linking to who. The quality of those links also matters. PR is a reflection of quality. Basically for off-page seo you want to get high pr (high quality) links back to your site. You also want those links to contain anchor text for the niche keywords you are focusing on. If you can get high pr pages to link to your site with the keywords of your choice you will rank well, guaranteed. Personally I would just buy links. Its the best/fastest way to do it. If you get in the top 10 who knows how much traffic you will get as a result. Traffic = money after all and the higher you rank the more traffic you will get.

AS you would be facing strong competitors so you can't do it normally, you need to invest money, time, effort and your previous experience. But if you want to do it then you can, as six months are not a short period. Before starting, plan well about what to do and what not to do. Also look at history of SEO and check some websites which had the same aim that you have, try to learn from them. 6 months time may be a bit quick time. Anyways make detailed back link analysis for top 10 competitor websites against your anchored text and try to get link from them. Add good useful content regularly .These simple 2 stuffs can take you all the way to top 10 .
