I haven't paid much attention to MSN's search in a long time, but I just noticed that one of my sites almost completely disappeared. On a google search I'm #1, I did an MSN search 1: spam site, just has a bunch of PPC listings 2: not related, sells a similar item, not the same thing 3: manufacturer's site (okay) 4: again, not related. different product some other mix of okay pages and other non-related ones. Weird. The site is only showing 50 pages indexed (out of like 400 or so).
Same here. I used to have MSN love and no Yahoo traffic. Now MSN barely gives me any traffic and Yahoo is all over my sites. Although on MSN my keywords have decent sites on the first page....for some other searchs its all splogs. Seems like a hit or miss with them not so consistant. I wonder if they human edit some categories?
MSN has been showing a lot of spam and keyword stuffed sites recently in their Search Results. Just to share.. MSN Search isnt working for me today dont know what happened None of these URLs are working. http://search.sympatico.msn.ca/ http://search.msn.com/ Any body having the same problem ?
When I go to these it takes me to www.live.com their new search engine so to say. Maybe they are changing them all over to their new search???
msn search is just pants ! Im position #4 in google and #2 in yahoo both on page 1 for a competitive keyword but nothing in msn. I used to rank very well with them but they are just full of spam sites now. Give them time to evolve and maybe in 24 months they will be at the level of google and yahoo from 3 year ago. Not that im bothered because msn only ever sent me 1% of my traffic.
I was reading on WMW the other day that MSN is really hitting sites that looks "spammy" - my site that got hit has a site navigation (where it puts all the products I sell on each page) that seems to be the cause of it. Other sites in this field that do the exact same thing don't show up in MSN search either. So that seems to be the cause of my issue. Since it helps make people buy 2+ items instead of 1, I don't wanna take it down just cuz of some search engine. Crazy.
I have noticed a major drop in MSN traffic to my sites since the end of last month. I too have a navigational bar full of internal links to help people find the right information and products and that may be why my sites have dropped from the rankings so bad. The cool thing is that while my sites are dropping on MSN they are going up on yahoo and google.
MSN and live have been fairly spam filled as of late. How are you ranking in Ask? Will Ask pass up MSN for market share? Hmmmmm..
No Ask is never going to pass MSN in market share never. Whats going to happens is that now that Microsgt has live.com it is going to increase there market share. People seem to love the new live search interference.
I'm not even sure how to rank in ask.com. Either ask solely relies on inbound links to find pages (and doesn't actually consider whats on the page as relevant); or its stupid. One of the two. Can't figure out which
yea i get little traffic from msn, but i think its relative to google and yahoo since msn traffic is 5-10% of google in the first place
Its quite easy to get spam sites into MSN, their search algorithm is so poor and easy to manipulate its not even worth bothering with. Oh, and to the blindfully ignorant person who said Ask will never take Microsoft over, why can you be so sure? Based on this whole topic you should get a good perception of the query results from MSN. If people dont get what they want from a search engine, they move onto one that does.
Consider the geo and demo targeting capabilities (which are much better than the stuff the other guys are working on) and the insights from AdLabs and, though traffic is still deficient compared to Y! and Google, the marketing options excel MSN Search http://seobrien.blogspot.com/2006/08/geo-optimization-in-paid-search.html
I'm not sure if it's affecting their search results, but MSN Search is now Live Search. It's part of a branding overhaul by MSN. They've also commented that they're in a big push to gain market share in the search vertical. My guess is that they're testing / updating new algorithms. I would say watch and wait ... see how things "level off" after a month or so. -Brandon
Possibly. I'm willing to wait it out, personally. My other site is more completely indexed and ranking (very similarly to google) right now, so that's a good thing. Problem is, the needs to make the sites rank are so totally disparate, I can't make them happen the same way. Which sucks. I hate product driven sites .
I don't know what happenned there. A site of mine was getting a lot of traffic from there, now it's nowhere, (not even 1 visitor). Google accounts for all traffic for this site. May be it's the shift to live.com and is temporary...
wow, glad to hear I am not the only one. My site ps3planet.us was number three for search ps3 release date and number one for ps3 release, now it's not showing up at all, on any page I can find. I am losing a lot of traffic from this because at least 75% of my traffic is from MSN.
