Message for Link Exchangers: PR is dead! Stop requesting high PR for link exchange!

It's about time you all realize that PR is dead!

A website with PR0, regular fresh content and less than 10 OBRL (Outbound Relevant Links) is a million times better than a website with PR5, no updated content and 30 OBL.

Jeez, Google didn't update their PR for 7 months, what other hints do you need?

Stop doing SEO like in 2005! Things evolve!

I'm probably gonna get an infraction for this post but it's worth it if it's going to change the mentality of certain people here.

So why is this message exclusively for Indians and Pakis? While PR is not the most important thing, I still see high PR sites ranking in top 5.
I guess the real reason why people are so obsessed with PageRank is because you can still make a lot of money by selling high PR backlinks ;)

Yes, making money is also a factor with high pr, but first of all you have to think how you would get high pr.

I think the information mentioned in thread is correct and I assume it.

If back links are not relevant then it is not going to do much, and it is not a new thing it is main part of back link building.

I also think information is correct. First time I consider google have missed pr in summer and will make it in september-october. But as we can see google hasn't made it.

I thinks that a informative post, I still think that when you get links from a high pr sites of your niche it does help on getting good traffic and help you to improve your site SERP.

no racist intentions at all but it's no secret that the link exchange section is 80% Indians/Pakistanis... and these guys seem to LOVE the PR for some reason. Only on this forum do I hear so much about PR...

Anyhow, sorry if I offended anyone, but I just lost it when I got a message saying "your site is only PR2 sir, I need PR3 or higher for link exchange sir" which means that I could technically give this guy a crappy spammy PR3 with duplicate content and he'd take that over an established & aged PR2 blog with fresh & relevant content and almost no outbound links. Am I the only one that is sick with dealing with this kind of people for link exchange?

I've got plenty of websites with PR0 ranking top 3... PR is dead, move on!

I don't know why your targeting Indians and pakis. There are are many people from all around the globe who buying and exchaning links on the basis of High Pr. If you will investigate that what your saying then you will come to know that People from Other Countires ( except Indians and Pakis ) are buying High pr links rathar than your mentioned countries. So think yourself that who are treating Pr for link building.

Please Don't spread This type of racial threads here on Dp.

Google does not update PR regularly, but it updates. I think Google just updated PR in month of Oct 2010.

You do realise many will not even read your 2nd post and give a reply based upon the first. The link-exchange example you gave is actually a good example of what is wrong with the PR mentality. I have not checked PR for any of my websites for about three years from memory - they all get good traffic and generate good income with high SERPs, but even some of them would probably be rejected in the link-exchange section.

While I can see what your intention was with your original post, you will find that many Indians, Pakistanis and other Asian countries tend to take any percieved criticism quite personally - regardless of what the message is.

As your original intent will be swept by the preceived insult etc, I would suggest asking a Mod to close this thread.

One more vote for closing this thread. No matter whether OP intention was to insult or not, it reads like it is.

PR is the best measuring stick available to assess the value of a link from a website.

Is it perfect? No. Is it better than your PR0 vs PR5 example? Yes.

You can approach link building like that for your website if you want to, but you can't when answering to a client, as these link building firms are doing. They need to justify their link building efforts to their clients, and PR is how they do it.

And BTW, PR will be dead when Google says "We have abandoned the Pagerank algorithm". I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

    One more thing,

Pagerank matters because people use it to make decisions. They use it to decide how much to pay for a link. They use it to decide which article directories to submit to. They look at your pagerank and use that number to decide whether what you are saying is trustworthy. They look at PR before contacting you with a guest-blogging request.

Even if Google secretly stopped using it, the number of people who use it to make decisions makes it well worth having.

"Pagerank matters because people use it to make decisions?"... What kind of statement is that? There are tons of other tools available to judge the quality of a link that are much more efficient (for example the stats provided in the seomoz pro toolbar).

Everyone has abused PR during the past few years. I've seen so many garbage sites with PR5+ it's not even funny. I bought some PR5-PR6-PR7 links in here in the past few years that brought me very little link juice. On the other hand I got some links from PR1-PR2 sites who brought gave me some great SERP boosts because they had high quality relevant content, published on a regular basis.

Smart SEOs don't follow the crowds, and problem on DP is a lot of webmasters simply follow what others are doing without trying to understand for themselves. PR seems to be the only metric in the link exchange section... it's pathetic.

Very true (though could have avoided targeting specific countries, a general tone could have spread the message that you wanted to convey), even i have sites which is PR0 in first spot in google for its keyword almost since last 3 years (i assume the site was penalised for link selling, some competitor might have complained to google, though i am no saint when it comes to link selling :D), the second site is a PR5 third site is a PR4 and the fourth site is a PR6, so i dont believe this theory and with PR not getting updated i assume Google too have lost interest in it.

just basically just clarified why the OP is completely right when he says that PR is NOT a valid measurement.

people who actually know about SEO don't look at one metric to determine a site's value - you'd have to be a god-damn moron to do that.
