Hi there Here's something that has made a hUge difference to me in finding good keywords: 1. Give yourself more than enough time. If you set aside 2 hours for keyword research -you'll not need that much, but it means you'll have a much more relaxed attitude to it, and you'll do a much more thorough job. Get a beverage and/or snack, and make yourself comfortable. And if you finish before 2 hours is up, bonus, but it means you will be less likely to feel rushed and resentful, and you'll definitely find better keywords. 2. Treat the entire exercise as a treasure hunt. And it really does feel like that if you have that perspective. It's tricky to find keywords with high search volume and low competition in popular niches, but they DO exist. And it may take you half an hour to find your first one, but when you do it will feel like you've found treasure - and it will motivate and inspire you to search for more. Enjoy! Hope this helps.
Thanks for a couple of tips samm5. I think you need to include the best keyword tools in your tips for us to use it on keyword research and analysis for our website or blog. Keyword tools like Google Keyword External Tool, Keyword Winner, Market Samurai and the like may give the newbies or even the pros a hint to your tips. You must include it in your tips, coz' it's very important.
Great tips. Finding high volume with low competition is vital for small businesses with small marketing budgets. Use Google's Keyword tool to help you find these. Use good SEO practices, and build solid backlinks and in time you will see results.
Your tips are not about finding best keywords rather its basically talking about how to get motivated while looking for keywords. Some would there is one tip that is "It's tricky to find keywords with high search volume and low competition in popular niches, but they DO exist."
If you don't find the right keywords, no matter what you do afterward, it won't work for you. All the hard work on SEO, marketing, and other things will go down the drain. How does that sound for motivation?
Hi Bogartkick Thanks for the feedback and suggestion. I hadn't mentioned the tools because I figured there are plenty of posts where people talk about the tools, whereas the mindset hasn't really been addressed, but you have a good point, so I'll mention the tools here I use the Keyword Research tool in the Wealthy Affiliate University: and I also use Market Samurai Before I got these tools, I used Google's free keyword tool - which is what I'd reccomend for those who are just starting out. The tools I use now are not free, but I use them because there's a lot more information they give on competition, seo of competition sites etc. But for a beginner, Google's free tool will give you an idea of monthly searches and whether there's high competition etc. Hope this helps.
i always think a good place to start is to check what keywords are already driving you traffic in analytics. for example, if keyword 1 is getting you 3 or 4 hits a day and you are at position 9, target this keyword to begin with - you know people are already searching for it!
Hi Ameerulislam1 I know there is a lot of information in these and other forums on how to go about finding keywords - in a practical sense - but in my experience one of the main reasons many people don't find good keywords is because they are rushing, mis-calculate how long it takes, and/or don't like the process. If a person is in a relaxed state, and enjoys the thrill of the search, they are MUCH more likely to find the treasure Allowing enough time, and seeing it as the equivilant to finding a little diamond amongst lots of sand and stones can help improve results. Where they may have stopped at a mediocre keyword, they'll be motivated to push on until they find a Brilliant one! But, to cover the basics here as well since it seems people might want them, here's a step-by-step to finding the best keywords for a niche: 1. Open up Google Keyword Tool 2. Type in the broad term. For example, if your product is cotton socks, type in cotton socks. 3. Make sure the "Locations" selection is the one you want - it defaults to your own location, if your audience is worldwide, you'll need to click on "Advanced Options" and select this. 4. Click Search 5. Sort by number of searches (by clicking on the column heading "Local Monthly Searches") or by Competition (by clicking on the column heading "Competition") This saves a lot of time since once you get down to your minimum search requirement or maximum competition level, you can move on. 6. Skim down the list to find (depending on how competitive your niche is) searches of at least 1000 per month, and no more than 3/4 competition. 7. Copy and paste these keywords into a notepad document with a note of the montly search volume and approximate competition. Repeat this process with other related keywords, so for example you could then do this process to find more keywords by typing in socks for women or sports socks etc. Keep going until you find the best keywords - high search volume and low competition. Take your time, and enjoy the process. An extra note: The more targeted the keyword (long-tail), the fewer monthly searches you'll need. For example if you found that the keyword "orange spotted cotten socks" gets 800 searches a month, that would be excellent because someone searching specifically for orange spotted cotten socks will be more likely to buy, so you'll need fewer visitors to get a sale. Those are the basic steps I used to use. I now use the tools I mentioned above, but this method is good for beginners. Hope this helps
If you are searching a keyword for your website than you must do full research on this, choose the keywords that are less competitive and could get you more traffic on your website.
A lot of people won't like this but the best way to find a good keyword is to use YOUR BRAIN No tools will help you find those golden nuggets, you need to use some critical thinking, look at what is popular at the moment, and go from there. Of course, the stats need to be there, i.e. you need to make sure it has plenty of searches a month and is not too competitive.
Heard of a guy who is making money from a book scraping website even though he understands nothing much about it. It's not his hobby. He happened to see that people were looking for ideas so he got someone writing a book on the subject and is selling it. Makes him good money. What I want to say, we need to have an open mind to what niche / keyword it could be. Even the most boring thing (for me) can excite enough people to make it worthwhile to provide something eg an e-book for them. Unexpected, lucrative surprises are still around!
Yes, if you make the time to research keywords properly you will find a lot of treasure still waiting there.
There are lots of keywords that you can think of, and use your own imagination. All keywords can be combined into unique set of keywords, and analyze it well if the status is low competition. Always know the game of keyword research, it takes time until you find the gold mine.
