    hello everyone

I have a query for the seo and htaccess gurus

    I have 2 domains

    the one is a .com

    the other is a .co.uk

because the site is UK based, and our target audience is the UK, we decided to 301 the .com to the co.uk

I did this more than 6 months ago

however I am still seeing results for the .com in serps when doing a site: search

this is my redirect rule in my htaccess of the .com site

surely this should have long taken effect ?

    any advice will greatly help

    thanks :)

Just make index page for .cm and put nofollow tag and strop crawling from robot.txt. when your .com crawling next time google will drop unwanted result.

wouldn't I be losing any PR juice if I did that ?

a 301 should transfer any old link juice from incoming links to the .com and passes it onto the .co.uk

    implementing nofollows negates all that

301 redirects can often fail if Google thinks they are not done legitimately. I been through the process myself many times and my rankings are restored after 3-4 weeks on the new site.

Here is what you need to do:

    1. In Google webmaster tools, authenticate both sites so that Google knows you are the owner of both domains.
    2. Ensure your Whois information is the same on both domains
    3. Implement the 301 redirect file on the old domain name
    4. Ensure any old pages that you also want implementing on the new site have their own 301 redirect entry in the .htaccess file.
    5. Login to GWT, goto site configuration, change of address and also, then under section 4. - Choose the new site location.

These are the exact steps I go through when redirecting domains..

    lol what?

yes I know this is logical if you have say 10 backlinks, but impossible when you have hundreds, besides a good portion of the links people get are unsolicited and long forgotten, they may have found a funny joke on your site or something similar, now you going to contact them to update their links?

"Yo, I know you liked my joke from 4 years back and linked to it from your blog, any chance you can link to my new site instead?"

If someone sent me a mail like that, I'd more than likely delete the link entirely.

    Dumbest idea of the day.
