How effective is using sites like digg to promote your site? I am looking for some new free promotion methods but cant seem to figure out what to say on digg or sites like that.
It doesn't work very well. There far too many articles submitted by people like yourself trying to get on the first page. Therefore it is oversaturated. Also, the digg voting system is kinda rigged if you read about it.
Stop using digg. It suc*s. Now do a little search to find out how many dp members are banned from digg for no reasons.
its really tricky to purposely promote you site on digg. The best way i guess is to write an interesting article and submit that story to digg with the link pointing direct to your article and then when digg users visit your site, hopefully they'll stay and take a look at other pages on your website.
Use digg for at least a month. After that time you should be able to figure out what diggers like. Then just write some articles on your blog and submit them.
Let's put it this way...your article has to be compelling enough to have others digg it. If it's another "top ten ways to increase yuor search engine rankings", you might as well forget about it.
I'v tried article submission before and i have to say i didn'ty like my results. Submitted an original article to about 20+ article directories and didn't get many hits from them...
DP members were just the first to figure out how to rig the system in their own favor... Digg picks on us b/c they see us as a force to be reckoned with
If hits or visits are what you are looking for by submitting articles you aren't going to be happy. The main thing about articles is the incoming links to your site.
I would not agree with you here. I have a site that receive 300 daily visits from one keyword, just as that keyword was in title of my Digg story. Now I rank in top 5 for all phrases that have "awesome" keyword in it, of course in my niche. Second - if you type "fast proxy site" in google you'll get Digg story on #1 , and its there at least ,last 2 months, as I made that search 2 months ago. So, its still sometimes good for some rankings, of course not all the time.
I posted a lame 1 page site to Digg & Reddit 3 days ago and have had 20 hits from Digg and 40 from Reddit. I am still getting Reddit hits but Digg hits stopped within 24 hours. Both the Digg & Reddit pages are already listed in Google for my key search phrase - so they are good for link building.
I've been experimenting with with for the past few hours, quality posts, get a bump of traffic then it all dies off. Be interesting to see how many people it brings me in returns. I would love to have more posters on my forums so it might work out well for me. AdSense is running but I have no problem building the user base, the clicks will come.
none on the same scale, except for maybe delicious. apart from slashdot, but that's a slightly different type of site... still possible to show up there though, DP members have done it before.
