    Hey.

I was just wondering a thing first of all. My website is Mixupdate.com as in my signature too. First of all I think it's penalized because Search results and traffic has fallen a bit from Google but I'm not sure . Search results are very bad. But coming to the point,

When I search "mixupdate.com" in Google and click at Show All Results then I can see many of my results are as mixupdate/tag/name and some of them even mixupdate.com/attachment_id=blabla . I do use keywords and tags when Posting stuff. Basically I do copy some of the keywords to the tags too when posting. Now is the mixupdate.com/tag search result fine ?

The attachment_id is of course not fine I do know that. Because in Webmaster tools, it is appearing as duplicate content for the same post . In Webmaster tools > Site Configuration > Settings > Parameters. There are options to ignore some specific parameters can we use that ? If yes, whats the syntax ?

Because I see some posts duplicate as,

    /?p=421
    /?p=421?ftr=vidpgurl

    Although both pages are same.

You can use 'All in one seo' wordpress plugin to use 'nofollow' for your tags. This will remove any duplicate content penalties

I am already using All In one SEO pack but not using nofollow for tags.

But as you said I have tick marked that option now from the Options menu. I now have all the options tick-marked ( rest were ticked already ) .

    Is that fine ??

Also, what about attachment_id and ftr=vidpidgurl ? That should be done through Google Webmaster Tool Parameters right ?

    If yes, Syntax please.

yes, use nofollow for tags because whenever a search crawlers visits your tag it gets the same content that it had already indexed. using nofollow will help.

wordpress plugins have made life much easier. As far i have understood your question, you can use another wordpress plugin for custom page extensions.
I dont remember the name of that plugin but there is a plugin that will convert your "/?p=421" URL to 'page title.html'
Also you can customize permalink settings for your posts to display as .html pages
    I hope this will work.

If it doesnt, then let me know, i would have to look into your website structure and google parameters.

I have already done that. I am using custom permalinks now.

But the old links although they have a 301 redirect, are still in Googe's index and Webmaster tool's duplicate pages.

it takes some time to get your old URLs replaced. Whenever the next time Google will crawl your website, it'll start updating the URLs.

I think its just a matter of time that your new URLs will get indexed. Have you used sitemap to check how many of your URLs are already indexed?

Many of them are indexed but the old ones ( although 301 redirect is applied ) and the new ones are being considered as duplicate when looked through Webmaster tools.

So I think doing the removal redirected links manually through Google Tools > Parameters would be a good option.

One more thing I expect asking is,

    /?tag=chandra-levy-intern-murder-case
    /tag/chandra-levy-intern-murder-case/

Are also being considered as duplicate. So I think it's actually the old tag redirected to the new one. I can remove it too but removing the parameter tag would remove the /tag too ? Or is it fine ?

Also the /tag should have a nofollow or do follow ? What's better for traffic ?

if "/tag/chandra-levy-intern-murder-case/" is a URL that is generated because of post tags then it is a duplicate content and removing it will help.
One thing you must know about duplicate content is the content is considered duplicate if it is hosted over the same domain and in your case your website is hosting duplicate content when URLs are generated through tags.
Google is the only search engine that follows the 'nofollow' rule. all other search engine will ignore the nofollow.
the problem with tags is they usually generate duplicate content and for websites with some thousands of pages, this is a problem. on the other hand tags also boost your keyword density of a page.
Use tags but keep them nofollow so that you get a good keyword density and no penalty for duplicate content.

    Ok then .

I have already added Nofollow for tags in " All in one SEO pack "

But I also ignored "tag" from Paramaters at Webmaster tools so I should set it back to "don't ignore" now ? Because as you said it will increase the keyword density and I also believe that they are really important.

Ok I have set "don't ignore" to tags in Webmaster tools but added Nofollow to them through " All in One SEO Pack ".

Now all I need is Google to index my tags and replace the 301 redirected tags with new ones instead of considering the redirected and the new pages as Duplicate content. This is really a big big flaw in the No.1 Search Engine.

keyword density is measured through the content of your page. keep them 'ignore' in parameters so that they'll be considered as your page's content but wont be followed as new hyperlinks by Google spider.

They can be considered content also through the tags. Tags really do help for Keyword density. And many top sites are using them actually. So putting up nofollow would actually be better instead of ignoring them . What do you say?

I actually forgot telling that the tags are not being considered as duplicate but the old tags after pointing to new tags ( custom structure ) are being considered duplicate. And if I try to remove mixupdate.com/?tag= ( old structure ) then I feel mixupdate.com/tag ( new structure ) will also be removed because in Google Parameters, the syntax for tag is simple "tag" which will actually be read for ?tag but I'm not sure if it would read /tag too. So this is what I want to know. Some technical person can tell better about this.

ignoring tags in google parameters means that they'll only be ingored as URLs not as page's content.
I agree and i have said that tags are a great source of boosting keyword density. using nofollow for tags will tell google spider not to crawl them but what about the tag URLs that are already indexed? if you can wait for google to figure this out by itself then dont ignore tags in parameters but if you want to update them by yourself, then ignore them so that the already indexed tag URLs get replaced by the original ones.
