My thought is... If so many people are getting high PR's across the board then does PR lose it's importance if everyone has a high PR?
The new PR 5 is the old PR 4 None of this should be worried about unless you're selling links. Do a search for 'hip hop forums' # 2 site has no PR displayed... yet ranks # 2 out of 69mil competing
In that case, I will take comfort in your words .. Still dropping from 4 to 1 makes me wonder what the hell I did? If indeed anything !
I do not feel the update is done yet. However I can assure you that any advertiser who is truely worth promoting... will ask to see your daily traffic stats before they care about your PR. In fact if you were to apply to be a publisher at some websites, you will see you need to have xxx,xxx uniques per day / month to join. I do not remember ever seeing you must have Goog PRX As far as dropping from 4 to 1 were links to your site dropped?? The links to your site could also have become devalued...but again update still seems to be underway. Hope it helps Peace
Theres still loads of backlinks to the site, however what I have noticed is that the primary domain is now leasingandcontracthire.com and not prefixed with www. - Now, this could have been because in the google sitemaps admin I nominated the non www. to be the primary. And, as most of my backlinks point to http://www.leasingandcontracthire.com perhaps thats what's happened?!?!?! Anyways, I've changed the sitemaps preference back to www. - Uneducated dabbling on my part perhaps. Thanks for advice BTW
Yes the canonical URL issue. You hit the nail on the head in what happened though.. You told google this is the important site leasingandcontracthire, Google said okay, went out and looked for links to that URL saw none or little I suppose and down went the value.... Now to get it straight seems you have done the right thing and will now have to wait a spell to see Google adjust. If possible always use full URL's whether it be in linking to other sites or linking to your own pages using absolute URLs as opposed to relative... There is a an apache code that can be used in htaccess that is better to use than googles prefered domain as it will take all links to your site and force them to your full URL thereby solidifying your Google PR. I notice youre using CFM..never worked on one in that code..... What are your rankings like on Yahoo??? Also has the drop in PR effected keyword positioning at all??
I could probably fix it up to prepend www. - Good tip - thanks Yahoo - 5,760 in links on www.leasingandcontracthire.com Keyword positioning - Not entirely sure.. Will run webposition to check later on
damint I did not get any improvement on any of my sites....however iwebtool predicted them to jump to at least PR5. I did alot of SEO......can't believe that this is happening
A lot of you need to relax. During this period PR will go back and forth between your old rating and new rating until the update is complete.
Matt Cutt's has confirmed over at his blog that this is an 'infrastructure update' and the PR will be showing differently across the servers for quite some time. (So not the standard PR update).
