Try youtube and search photoshop tutorial! Sometimes the author's idea is not the same as what you think so better watch youtube tutorial than trying trial and error.

Photoshop Starter is nice free website with nice tutorials for beginners, also Lynda tutorials but is payable website you need to pay about $25/month.
