YOUR Thoughts on Marketing This Website

Guys...like to hear your suggestions on how I can market this company site.

It's a cosmetic skin care online company store. Obviously it's not imperative that we generate tons of traffic on a consistent daily basis...but it's a product selling site so i would say the product name has to be more popular than getting daily traffic.

So my question is...what things should I focus on with marketing this cosmetic online store?

You could write reviews about the skin care products in the online store, and also you could get other people to write the reviews for you aswell. You could then write about it on squidoo, hubpages and ezine articles.

Get it listed with any sites or directories that are health/beauty related.

I am not sure I understand you correct.

Are you saying that it's an e-commerce site (buying wholesale, selling retail, carrying multiple products?
Or are you promoting the actual product manufacture site

I would promote differently depending on which one it is. It sounds like you are talking about the latter, but I want to be sure.

write some articles with keywords, or join an affiliate network as an advertiser, even as a publisher, so you can make money two ways off of your site

You're actually in a good niche as well, so if your product isn't selling as much, you could still be making money with the offers you are promoting on your website. You're in the health niche promoting to women, so you can have weight loss offers, and other ones similar, which have good conversion rates and often pay pretty good

so its all about brand recognition right??

Start by finding an angle on the product or company, something that makes it sand out of the crowd, something that is newsworth. Try to come up with an interesting take on the subject. Do not rely on this is my product, this is why it is the best, or anything like that. Try to be creative.

Then write (or have written) the best damn press release you can come up with. distribute this too all the high quality press release sites and hope that it gets picked up. If you have a little bit of a budget (and you think your story is good enough) you can used the paid submission on prweb

Next, I would try to get your news story picked up by google news. If you don't know anything about the proccess read everything here :
    http://www.google.com/support/news_pub/bin/topic.py?topic=8909

You can also hope to get picked up by yahoo news as well.

If you don't get any coverage from the PR campaign, you can try it again at a later time.

Nex I would use google blog search and try to track down as many blogs in the niche as possible. Try to track the highest traffic ones down first and put them in your sights.

Start by doing some basic blog commenting (with links back to your blog) and set up a gravatar with a decent looking chick in the picture.

Next, I would start contacting the owners of these blogs and see if any would be willing to let you write a guest post. If they have a following this should help you tart getting visitors to your site and stat adding authority to your name.

Next I would install a wordpress blog on your site and enable linkback/trackbacks. Then find another blog ad post some comments in their comment section to start up a bit of a conversation and make a point to disagree with him. if he responds and argues with you at all, you know he is the type.

So then make a post on your blog talking about the same subject that he argued with you about. make sure it is respectful and don't trash the guy, but try to call him out on it and make sure that you leave a backlink pointing to his blog.

this will cause a trackback to appear on his sight, and if your lucky he will approve it. That means that a big bold link to your page will appear above the comments section of his page and all his traffic will see it. If you are really lucky the dude will make another blog post about it to retaliate what you said.

This kind of stuff can make all his subscribers turn in to your subscribers too.

STart facebook/twitter pages for your company. get as many people as you can to sign up to them. I am not talking about spamming FB/Twitter, i mean try to get everyone on your list and everyone that comes to your website to follow/friend you.

Now put thoose little Like and Retweet buttons on EVERYTHING. I cannot explain to you how powerful this can be.

post usefull stuff from time to time on twitter and everytime you post something on FB also mention it on twitter. EVery once an a while ask people to retweet it.

EvERYtime you send something out to your list or post a video on youtube or something put a call to action asking them to Click the like button on FB

You see the average FB user has 200 friends, if you can get a few hundred frends and then entice them to hit the like button then all their friends see it and so on. The same for twitter, this can cause your product go viral.

Use Youtube. Dont just upload and leave it. upload videos about your product and then try to get people to watch them. You can post them in forums or on face book or send them to your list or tweet it. hopfull you can get some youtube subscribers out of it. subsribers always lead to more subscribers and higher ranked YT rankings

    Forum marketing!!
use google groups and omgili to find forums in the niche. BEcome part of the community and try to provide value. Put your site in your sig and possibly try to purchase advertising or even better JV with the forum owner. You can build some serious niche authority, brand recognition, and traffic with forum marketing.

ARticle marketing & SEO goes wihtout saying

    Media Buys

I could keep going but I'm tired of writing. This should help get your gears turning.

I'd go with article marketing and video promotion
use tube mogul to upload your videos to multiple sites at once

Get your existing customers to write business reviews. You should also consider publishing ratings or reviews for the most popular products on relevant pages. While you market on social networking sites or through emails, add a link that connects to the page of business reviews. This way, more people will want to learn about the product. Some relevant customer feedback and comparisons will build credibility to your company.

The product name is more important than how much traffic you get...?

Enjoy your shiny product as you generate those 0.5 conversions per day. You could have the most poorly-named product on the face of the earth and people will still buy it. You may need to adjust your priorities.

Social Media Marketing is the way to go bro, just look at the pringles campaign.

    HEre is what I suggest

You have a facebook account for it, well create a fan page for the product with the product name as the fan page name. Use the facebook developer tools to incorporate a like button or box on your website. Link back to your fan page in everything you do promotionally and content wise. On the fan page (or group whichever you prefer) make sure your posts are targeted at starting conversations. You want to ask questions related to your product or niche, start polls, run contests, all that stuff. The goal is to get people to like your page and to start giving you feedback and being active on the page (you may have to seed your page for this to start happening). Once you've got that running successfully you will not only have traffic and interest around your product..but your fan page or group will also be a list of potential buyers to notify about updates

Consider monetizing the site further with affiliate products (digital) in the same niche.
