This is good news for domain hack investors and ccTLD investors: As you probably know, ICANN is going to create an infinite amount of gTLDs: http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-20019282-264.html Here are the list of all new gTLD coming soon next year: .AFRICA/.BERLIN/.CYM/.ECO/.EUS/.FACEBOOK/.FAM/.GREEN/.HOTEL/.LAW/.LONDON/.MUSIC/.NYC/.PARIS/.PDX/.POST/.RADIO/.SFO/.SHOP/.SIC/.SPORT/.XXX/.ZULU/CITY/.CRS/.ENOM/.GODADDY/.MONIKER/.USA/.TWITTER/.CANON/.NIKE/.TOYOTA/.HONDA/.CAR/.FOOD/.PET/.WEB/.FREE and much much more... Have you guys realized that gTLDs are 3 or more characters long ? Have you guys realized that almost all gTLD are english words only ? Have you guys realized that gTLDs like .com will no longer be the "must have" extension ? Have you guys realized that 2 words .com domain name will lose value because let's say you have digitalpoint.com and in maybe 5 years they are going to release the .point extension and you are going do whatever it takes to get digital.point ? Have you guys realized that short domain hacks like "hack.me" "chi.co" "watch.tv" are going to be more valuable in the future ? All im saying is that if you own a very good single word domain hack, keep it preciously. What I'm saying is that... you have cumsearch.me but what happend if in let's say in 2-3 years, someone release the .search extension? your going to be jealous and i'm sure you want to register cum.search or come.search right ? that leaves .me unnecessary. Or if your extremely lucky, you have search.me, you can create the cum.search.me subdomain! See what i mean ? Or in the worst case, you get cumsearch.me and someone else can get searchcum.me see ??? 2 words stick together that make it look like a word are bad domain hacks. Domain hack's purpose is to be like this formula: keyword.keyword Exemple: Ani.me is a good domain hack because "Ani" is a name and "Me" is a word and together they make "Anime" also a word. Exemple: Click.me is a good domain hack because "Click" is a word and "Me" is a word and together they make a phrase. Exemple: itsallabout.me is a bad domain hack because "itsallabout" is not a word and "Me" is a word and together they look weird. Exemple: me.com is not a domain hack because "Me" is an excellent word but "Com" is not a word... "Com" used to be an abbreviation of "commercial" and together they dont look great. In my opinion, it's better to have mar.io because it's short and sweet then long ones like mario.com/mario.net/mario.org/mario.info/mario.free/mario.gay/mario.pet/mario.bros/mario.whatever ... Domain hacks are future proof because all you need is one! And that is mar.io and you don't have to worry about new gTLDs even if they release the .mario extension because doctor.mario is not as good and short as mar.io. - ccTLDs will never decay, they represent a country, they are limited to 200 LL in existence and only 3 of them represent a word that targets the world .TV/.CO/.ME I call them "hybrid" extensions because they perfectly work like a gTLD. - Only gTLDs decay because ICANN is planing to create an infinity amount of those LLL, LLLL, LLLLL, LLLLLL english words after the dot in the future, just look at those infamous extensions: .MOBI/.NAME/.JOBS/.PRO/.TRAVEL/.ASIA/.MUSEUM/.AERO ...ect and some of them doesn't make any sense like .CAT what's next ? .DOG/.COW/.PIG ?
too many extensions for people to remember, too much spread of extensions, people ant going to remember all, but just one, and the one is the .com which is existed for a decate+. you think people going to remember every site and so much extensions? it is a problem for ani.me because people usually will be confused where the dot comes. they will be most likly to type in mario.com cause they all know that the .com is the main extension and not .me I belive with so many extensions there will be many sites to pop up, it might be good for seo services but not really to remember them. will a person remember a .hotel extension? its sounds really hard to remember which site name is was and which extension it was under. the .me extension in papularity from the .com is only 0.000784 , which is 0.0784% in other words its less then a 0.1%
- People are not stupid to remember a word after the dot. - People are not programed only to navigate .com, they are humans. - People are becoming more web-savvy. Grand-mas and kids these days knows their country's extension. - People evolve and in the future, people are going to get used to keyword.keyword. - People love new stuffs and change everyday. - People prefer to have domains such as sugar.free instead of sugarfree.com because of it's elegance and simplicity. - People prefer short domains with short extensions. - People remember original and brand-able domain names better such as WHO.IS then lame unoriginal ones like WHOIS.COM - .Com used to be a "command" extension for early web-browsers. - .Com is an american thing and an american abbreviation of the word "commercial" - .Com will be remembered as the thing of the past and new generations are going to forget about it. - ccTLDs are becoming more popular then gTLDs
Not the first time that new extensions are planned and announced as the ultimate Internet boom, just remember .travel, .jobs, etc. etc., too much noise and too little results.
ICANN is planing to release 500 new gTLDs each year, so you better get them all before it's too late. - Some of them are going to be free. - Some of them are going to be cheaper then .info - Some of them are going to be much more easier to remember then .com such as .xxx
Agree with this one, I know a few people who are only familiar with 1-2 extensions (local one and .com lol). It seems like ICANN just wants to make more money
I know plenty in developer circles looking forward to grabbing cheap new .web (http://www.webtld.com/) registrations for development but if they are in the hands of domainers that want thousands for being middlemen then developers will find another domain.
We will adapt ,like we had to with the area codes for our phone numbers depending where you are located. people will be say is that digitalpoint.com or dot point something like this.
Its interesting, I'll say that much. Whether or not the investment will be worth it for existing sites though, is another thing. I guess it depends how your site gets traffic. If you rely mainly on the SERPS, then the new extensions shouldn't concern you too much. However, if you draw traffic from advertising and brand building, then this could be a vital change in your business. The gTLD/name combination could see a lot more traffic if done correctly. On the other hand, there will be a hell of a lot of domains that are no use to anyone except 'flippers'- these are the ones I'll be looking to make money from
And then will complain about spammy websites. If people did it with INFO domais, what could we expect with even cheaper extensions?
Are gTLD's can become loyalty to company only ? because if a company register for itself and don't want to offer open domain sales for gTLD except for company use only! is there any possibility available! because this way only company oriented products can find more value
No, you can create any extension you like as long you have money. (~2 millions) Trademarked companies like canon, microsoft ...ect are going to have their own gTLD only for their own use. They can create domains such as support.cannon or windows.microsoft or search.google which is more logical then to have the .com People are going to get used to non-com domains as soon as all trademarked companies are going to have their own extension like .nike .apple .google .ebay ...ect It's up to them if they want to offer domains. For exemple, .facebook is going to be a free TLD only for it's members such as: username.facebook instead of facebook.com/username See what i mean ? This is going to revolutionize the internet. This strategy is going make people get used to keyword.keyword for the next internet generations. In other words your kids and your grand kids are going to have such domains in the future and .com is going to be the thing of the past. Do you honestly think your kids and grand kids are going to spend millions on an old and mostly long and ugly .com domain while they can get a good one on .web or .whatever extension for $8 ? I mean, what's so special about .com ? All extensions work the same. Is it something to do with the human brain ? People don't understand that humans are not programed only to see .com webpages... I can see a .tv and here in Canada i see .ca everywhere ! So what i am saying, only those who have short domain hacks are going to be winner in the future. kiss.me is more awesome then kiss.com kiss.net kiss.org kiss.info kiss.web kiss.xxx kiss.walawalabingbing ...ect No other extension can create such a phrase.
I bet Honda guys will sue everybody who registers a domain name on .honda. Its the most lame thing that is gonna happen lol @ .twitter
I suppose domain name extension should become more popular first and then become used and interesting for investment
Only honda employees and sellers will have their own .honda domain, not anyone else. Ex: james.bond.honda / canada.honda / japan.honda / customer.honda ...ect
