They need *some* way of working out a site's authority. PR was so easy to manipulate though, they'll probably come up with some weird combination of backlinks + site age + search results going to the site + click through rate or some such. Always thought it was dumb to see a site with PR 6 but noone actually VISITS the damn site, its just got 5 billion blog comments and directory listings going to it.
If you're webmaster or making money online you will understand why PR is important..some of advertiser need high PR site to associated with.
Pagerank will be updated soon * The new Caffeine is a major overhaul of the calculations and maybe it made some changes to Google’s algorithm that messed up Pagerank. * Recently, Matt Cutts answered a question about how Google PR works and on what basis Google updates Pagerank. * Google employees confirmed that they have 2 pagerank data in their system, internal pagerank and external pagerank. Internal PR is the number they store in their database and external PR is the number shown to the public. So maybe they are still updating PR but it is just not shown to the public now.
Out in the cold! I've got one of those... I'm wondering, if pageranks never update, my PR > 0 sites could really be anything now, maybe even penalized by google?
Google is not yet updating Page Rank up to this date (October 28, 2010). Check this out: http://googlepagerankupdate.com
Yes, there's a lot of posts in hundreds of threads across many forums like this one that are saying the same thing...
No guarantee, though... that's the hope, but "wish in one hand and... " "if pagerank updates were horses, then beggars would ride..."
PR update from Google is a wide talk now, and yet we haven't receive any.. and I don't think that PR would die.. that would be impossible, change in manners maybe but not die..
