Those keywords that you use in your SEO, how much exact searches do they have per day? What is a small and big number for you? What is the minimum amount of searches for a keyword that makes it valuable for you?

I prefer keywords that have at least 10 searches per day. But then you need to have many keywords you rank for.

Im agree you just need to make sure that you will going to be able to reach google firsts positions, once you are there you can go for other related keywords.

Try to estimate your organic position CTR + your site CR, than you will be able to calculate the minimum exact searches needed for you

There is no right answer to this and local search for small business is a prime example. If you are only getting a few searches per month and only get one new customer every other month but the goods or service you supply earns you $3k you would be very happy.

you should check the competition of keywords rather than checking the visits.

There is no such exact number of searches for a keyword. I think it is difficult to find out per day searches for a keyword. I personally use Google keyword suggestion tool for selecting keywords. You select on the basis of global monthly searches or number of local searches for that keyword.

I generally use terms that get 80-100 searches a day (~2500/mo.). Anything less than that I'm not sure it's worth my time unless I can land on page 1 with just a blog post and a few links. Some traffic is usually better than no traffic but if you're going to put your time into creating content and building links, be sure that you are targeting keywords that get enough traffic to be exciting for you.

More search hits=more competition=more work. How much effort are you willing to put in?

Highly depends on the competition. But if there is low competition then I go for 90 searches per day

Here's the magic formula for your niche's keywords to gain traffic and exposure:

    1. Low competition level
    2. Short-tailed keywords (2 to 3 words in one keyword)
    3. At least minimum of 2k to 5k global and local monthly searches and trends

i suggest to select niche keywords having low traffic if your starting a new online business and cover high density keywords step by step once you got listing for niche keywords because selecting high traffic keywords leads more hard competition and hard to rank this will also be good for your business.

Short tail KW's? Is that really what you recommend? Do yer homework pal.
Besides, that has nothing to do with the OP's question.

Whatever, it's just my suggestion. At least both #1 and #3 are relevant.
