SEO is essentially dialing for dollars. Get your phone book and call all the companies that have a website and solicit SEO services. Tell them how important it is to rank well for google, ect. The charge a solid fee. 2K deposit payment and $1000+ a month afterwards. Make it seem like you mean business. And highlight the benefits of being indexed well in google.

i would agree to the part - a girl would probably go more for a investment banker than some guy posting day and night in DP :p

SEO is when you sit home. Do nothing, and wait for Google to mail you a check.

    Utopia. :D

Ugh dude good luck, i assume you got a source of income to back you up while you get some good sites going? A good profitable site doenst come out of the nowhere. :) If you really wanted this you should of saved up money and then bought a site with steady income.

    GL anyway

I think I've struck a nerve. Perhaps more details are in order:

I'm 22 years old and left a job last week where I would have made $130 - $150k had I slugged it out until next July.

However, every day was an exercise in misery. A good day was one where I was out of the office before 1 AM, a good hour was one in which I didn't think about quitting 100 times. On an hourly basis it's more accurate to think of what I did as working two moderately well-paying (full-time) jobs rather than one high-paying job. And for the amount of bullshit you have to put up with, I don't think it's worth it.

My friend (and no, he's nowhere near as ignorant of this stuff as I am) has made very good money doing this over the last few years working a fraction of the hours I do (did). And since my realization that i-banking is for chumps coincided almost perfectly with his suggestion that we team up on a new project he had in mind, I took it as a sign and quit.

Do I regret it? Not at all - I'm still young and can support myself off my savings for almost a year. If this doesn't work out, I re-enter the job market with a good story and an excellent resume. If it does workout, I move to Tahiti and start a midget farm. Either way, this is win-win, baby!

The biggest achievers are the ones who take the biggest risks. The biggest failures sometimes took huge risks. Good luck. I think many people have experienced working jobs that they hate every last second of but stick around for the money and stability. Congratulations on being in the position to break free and puresue happiness.

Perhaps you shouldn't have gone into investment banking?

Do something you love. Love SEO? Learn it, live it.

If you ever needed proof that the internet is an addiction that causes people to make irrational decisions ...

Seriously though, good luck. If you have the gumption, you'll make it work. Loving life is much more important than making money, so just do what you enjoy.

    Best of luck,
    Anita ;)

There's multiple ways to make money on here. Making sites and optimizing it with ads, PPC, affiliate programs, domaining, marketing, being paid for posting, build a myspace autofriend bot and leave it on for a few days, and then sell each bulletin post ... there's other ways, but yeah.

it is nice that you are taking seo seriously. but seo is good for parttime, so giving a full time to seo won't make a big difference.

in the world of seo, things take time to happen. a pr update can take some time, so dose other seo things.

don't leave the job, rather do seo on a parttime basis, it will help you more.:)

Seems that the op is not posting here anymore. I wonder what that means about his success as an a full time SEO expert. Maybe he is so busy with his new work that he has no time to post. Unfortunately, I have my doubts that is the case.

I would keep the job and do the SEO as a hobby. Thats what I would do. work for paying rent/mortgage, bills and everything and the little you have left put it aside and the money from your SEO work you can use that to have fun or whatever.

Lol, you make the bottom three look bad, but unstable income based upon risk-taking is way better than stable income based upon working a 9-5 job, unless of course you love doing it. ;)
