How to Get Backlinks That GOOGLE Recognise?

    Hey guys,

I've had my website for over a year now and it's had its ups and downs.
At the moment I'm sitting on about 400-600uv a day in a competitive niche.

I've been backlinking from the beginning. Had SEO's doing social bookmarking for me, 2000 directory submissions, Article Marketing and I was doing manual blog commenting in the beggining. Also have a few link exchanges with sites (some 3 way)

This worked well in the beginning but the links seem to get lost - Like on Google I think the highest backlinks I ever had showing was 14..as of today it is 4! Why does this happen?

Same with AltaVista - I had 380 at the peak about 3-4 months into my site but today it is 260.

What form of linking does Google like and actually RECOGNISE?

    Thanks for any help

I'll second that, Yahoo shows way more links. Go to Yahoo and type link:www.yoursitename.com that will display you current back links.

It can be difficult knowing which ones hold any value though so this does need to be analysed.

the best links you can get are stable link from stable site. the value of links from a real site is much higher than links that moves such as pligg site. it also happened to me when i promote sites only on forums, pligs and articles. when you links are fresh on those dynamic sites it`s push your site up on google, but when you stop posting, stop publish articles and etc all those links are burried and your site is going down with them.

the only way to stay up in the google ranking and to maintain or increase your backlinks is to keep the content on your sites frsh, This is difficult, I agree, but if you apply the simple strategy of:
new blog post + social bookmarking + twitter
+ article submission (ezine and other) and directoy submissions
+ Squidoo page + blog RSS + social bookmarking + twitter
+ Hubpage + blog RSS + social bookmarking + twitter

This strategy brings a great link chain and is not too time consuming.

You know what, maybe that is interesting...maybe that is the problem.

I have been a weee bit slack with content recently - In fact in October I was ranked 4th for my main keyword..now I'm on 3rd page!!! Behind some truely awful sites compared to mine with lower page rank!

Interesting linking strategy though, Herwin. Just to clarify...

Are you saying make a fresh content page, then social bookmark it, blog comment with links back to it, submit articles with a link pointing back to the main article, make a squidoo page that links back to the original article and make a hubpage that does the same?

    Sounds do-able.

Really strange....the things is, I've noticed sites ranked number one that have only one page...haven't been updated and don't have many backlinks. Obviously time is a factor as well. So, some of these sites may have been active for years on end.

I think article submissions are good. Also, I'm not sure what your site is, but you can try getting backlinks from commenting on good blogs related to your niche.

Just follow google webmaster guidelines for building links and try to get links in natural way or one way links from most relavant links with higher PR sites and have some patience.

Google has cut way back on the number of backlinks they report publicly. Use another service to check your backlinks.

Try to get links from well-established sites that are relevant to your site and the links will last and have juice.

Nice juicy links show up in Google one nice link is worth thousands of directory links. Most all directory links are worth almost nothing and just fade away.

Age is a factor also IMO some of my sites are out ranked by total junk sites with weak content but they are old.. google likes old sites.

simple! create a unique and fresh post then bookmarked it to social bookmarking sites, then Google notice the backlink of your site.

Social bookmarking is becoming saturated with spam as it has long been used for SEO purposes. Google recognises this and has algos in place to detect fraudulent bookmarks.

For example, it is not now enough to simpley Digg/Spurl/Jump your URL, you need votes too from other users. This way Google knows it is ledgit bookmark.

A much easier and proved method is to visit Google and typing in your main keyword. Get the URLs of the top ten positions and find out where they get their backlinks from. This can be time consuming but I have a link in my signature which may help.

Once you have your list of backlinks sorted by do-follow/no-follow and PR, then go ahead and submit your own site to the same places to get good search engine rankings.

No, Google is a bit more picky about the links it chooses to use, also Google does not display all of a sites backlinks by using link: command. The links Google is choosing to use will appear in the webmasters area, but still this has to be taken with a 'pinch of salt' as its not always 100% accurate.

Google clearly recognises pages with a PR, so that is where you want your backlinks. To find the backlinks your competitors are using easily I have a tool in my signature which may help. Good luck!

Build up the backlinks to your backlinks that you have already and that link juice will pass through. So, if you have a link from 123.com to yoursite.com then try to get a couple of links pointing to the 123.com site and that helps pass the juice.
