a har! I wonder if boats running Frigate Server 2007 will also be similarly hampered. From a wall street journal e-mail newsletter -- "Microsoft's new Windows Vista operating system will cripple the usefulness of computers found to be running unlicensed copies of the new software, as the software giant attempts to prevent piracy that has followed the release of previous versions of its operating system. At first, people running a version of Windows Vista that the company believes is pirated will be denied access to some of the most-anticipated Vista features. Then, if the user doesn't purchase a legitimate copy of Vista within 30 days, the system will frustrate users by allowing the Web browser to run for only an hour at a time. Microsoft said it won't completely cripple a computer running a pirated version of Vista, and it will continue to deliver critical security updates..." Good. Maybe this way more people will switch to Firefox. Joking aside, pirates will take care of activation / serial keys / windows update pathes like they usually do. Nothing to worry about. PS. There will still be critical updates in Vista? OMG, the most secure operating system ever ? Can't be ? How come MS is already hinting critical updates?
I don't see any problem with this, it will actually promote kids to buy software rather than pirate it. Good for Microsoft.
Vista is not worth buying, let alone pirating. Until Intel releases their 80 core CPU that they've claimed will hit the market in 5 years, Vista will run like crap, look like crap, and smell like crap.
I won't be using it until it runs 3d games as fast as XP. I don't play games that often; but its sad when a new OS benches lower fps in most games (as it does at this point).
Yes......The price is insane,im not surprised they are trying everything they can to make sure every dime is extracted!!
looks pretty sweet. I know next to nothing about Linux, other than it doesn't suck ass like Windoze! I should partition one of my drives and just check it out!
it's a relief they're still giving free security updates, honestly. more unpatched windows computers = more zombies = bigger botnets = more destructive DDoS capability out there.
I'm certainly going to be looking at an Apple/Windows XP laptop next update. I'll wait until it can run Vista though, even if I don't intend to use Vista.
Yes, they are smart not to deny the pirates patches.. they should also offer free hooks. It is funny though that it is 12 years after Windows 95 when they were leaking builds out like crazy to the pirate/enthusiast community that they finally turn around and start put the screws on, you would have thought it would be much sooner. But the computer nerds/enthusiasts/hackers are now as likely to be running linux so they don't get as much benefit from these influencers. imho Eric
If someone steals your license ID, by actual theft of document, or by hacking your PC, its not gonna be good when Microsoft brands you as a pirate when in all actuality you do nothing wrong. When windows stops working properly for these guys, that are usually computer illiterate, it will push them away from Microsoft. I can see the benefits of this, and no I do not support, contribute to, or am a user of pirated software, however I can see how this can hurt Microsoft.
I won't buy Vista until it is confirmed that it works fine. I learnt my lesson when XP first came out - MENJ
I dont know why people hate windows soo much. You can call it windoze or whatever, but its a damn kewl thing for people who are not into the nerd business ( making your own program when you need one ) Windows is cheap and its worth the dime you pay for.
lol I am still running windows 2000 professional and it works great ...as if im giving microsoft any more $$$...
Ive heard u can download it via microsoft for free its part of a beta program to iron out the bugs. Pirating Windows will come a part of the past or kinda when they fuckin learn people dont want to pay $200+ AUD for a disk that costs MS about 5c. Thats how I see it Hackers will always find a way around their stupid anti pirate protections just look at windows XP. you know how I see it already. you install vista ms recognizes it as a pirate copy now vista is said to work still except that anoying shutdown after a hour all hackers have to do is disable that timer. or disable the computer from phoning home. Games are built for windows thats the only reason I use windows
are you serious? Do you work for them b/c MS is evil. Case in point - I went to UG to IE7 the other day (for another app) and I had to install 4 verification patches/plug-ins and by the time it was all said and done I had to reboot like 8 times??? what is that all about?
