Is Pligg stable/easy enough to set up properly?

    hello,
(I've been a lurker here for a while and finally decided to join because this site is great!)

I've been considering using Pligg for a couple projects but have seen comments from the past few months that it's not ready for prime time yet. There are new builds on a daily basis, it seems, so for those who use Pligg: is it ready to go all-out yet? It seems like the perfect program for what I want to do, but having only basic tech skills, I don't want to spend hours installing it and playing around only to be frustrated and abandon in later.

Can anyone using Pligg now convince me that it's easy and easily tweaked to your needs?

    thanks much for the help.

Well i've used pligg on eztuts.com and really it was like a nightmare, especially the installation as some files were missing in the zip file and you would have to find it scattered all over the pligg forums, this of course happened around a month ago, i don't know if this issue has been resolved now.

I think if you have tech skills than it will be easier, otherwise it's not really ready for primetime imo.

I found it to be simple enough to install "Not easy "
if you read the forum over at pligg
& I am no way technicaly inclined :)
The One thing I will not be doing is playing around with the live site
    http://www.yabenews.com/
I am going to create a test site just to fiddle with as i have had some not so cool results after trying to change the templates

thanks much. I decided to get it going and found it relatively easy to install compared to a game site that needed some tweaking.

Now if I can figure out how to put adsense on it and how to redesign the template without breaking it, I'll be very happy :)

Thanks Mopacity. There are some nice sites using Pligg but are templates free. I see a lot of cool designs but don’t see where I can download them from.

Right now there's not many templates to choose from because they keep updating the build of the pligg software. You do get a template or 2 with the main program when you download it, though. One nice thing about pligg is it's really easy to change the language that appears on the page, without having to know how to program.

In the pligg forums some users have offered their templates/mods for others to use, too.

    Thanks godinu
I’m also going to change the language, in my case to Portuguese. The default template doesn’t do pligg any justice I think they should offer a more WEB 2.0 looking template by default.

There's a lot of talk about wanting a "web 2.0" look for Pligg in the forums there as well. In fact, some great looking templates (which are either not available or end up being customized tweaks) are what initially got my interest in pligg in the first place. For instance, check out plugim.com (2 super users created this site). Looks pretty cool.

Also check out the pligg forum where users show off their sites: many of the people there offer tweaks. Some have done translations as well (not Portuguese yet, that I know of). Good luck and have fun with it!

    Thanks for the links :D
I agree with you on that, I think they should have added a more WEB 2.0 template or at least something with a little more professional look. Another thing I hate about this script is how long it takes to load.
