Competitor is down... Now what?

I was checking competitors websites lately and found that one of them is down. Now, 3 days later, I see it is still down. Typing in the domain name gives me an account suspended page. Clicking on Google results for the competitor gives me an account suspended page. So, my eyes are not deceiving me. It seems odd since the website was a popular site. Either way I feel there must be someway to take advantage of this.

Does anyone know how to take advantage of a competitors site being down? I posted on my index page that the site was down and linked their URL to my sign-up page hoping to get my site added to the search results when a person searches for the competitors site. I don't know if that will work or not but it is a try.

Any other ideas would be great.

Just be patient, if it's down for too long, Google will just deindex it...

Just keep doing seo as usual, and wait for him to drop... Not really much you can do... With his site being down, you will most likely get some of his traffic, and move up, once he gets de-indexed...

I understand that. What if they pay the bill and their site comes back up again? Did I let an opportunity go to waste? I don't know, myself. That's why I'm asking.

Like I said, there is nothing you can do, but to keep up your seo efforts while he is down... It's not like you can step on the guys neck while he is down, all you can do is worry about your own site..

You can try to get the domain name but it takes time. Once a domain goes down I believe there is a 30 day grace period for them to reinstate it then it goes to another waiting period before being sold.

You could create an adwords ad using the domain name that is canceled, and various other forms and create ads like "site not working? then go here" or something along those lines. Because people will turn to their search engine to try and find it thinking they may have typed it in wrong.

That is probably the best way IMO to capitalize on it for the short term, when they come back just stop the ads. No long term strategy needed.

Chances are they didn't pay their hosting fee, and will be back up once they pay it, unless they no longer want the site and are happy to redirect their visitors to yours, nothing more you can do about taking advantage of it, until the domain expires and you can grasp it

Theres very little that you can do in terms of taking advantage, other than wait for google to deindex the site....

Don't worry about competitor, you just need do as much as you can to build or promote your own site. What you can do is waiting I think, so please be patient for this.
