Since people cannot agree on what is white hat or black hat, this is a tough question! Many things that I'd consider white hat, other people consider black hat. There are huge blog battles over whether certain methods are white or black hat. You would definitely do better to lean towards the white hat side of things.

Avoid fake clicks, computer generated traffic, and things like that. Google catches on to them. Also avoid deceptive sites (making it look like one thing, but being another) and other dirty tricks. Visitors hate them and will report you to Google. I'd also recommend using spam tools; they leave obvious footprints. Google and other search engines (no surprise) hate automated spam. Basically, just don't do things that scamming, spamming, or trying to trick Google. You will get caught sooner or later and all your hard work will go to waste. Otherwise, don't worry too much about whether it is white or black hat.

If you do white hat SEO properly, you can see pretty quick results. It does take a lot of work, but it produces short term results with good work.

    Not true.

White Hat SEO methods are known that have longer lasting long term effects rather than short lived short term Black Hat SEO effects.

If you dont want to have any problem with Google and other search engine, White Hat SEO is the best, because it follow the ethnic and lay down rules of SEO

They last longer, but you can certainly see results in the short term if you do it properly. If it is taking three to six months to really start seeing results, you are doing it wrong. Even doing very little (relatively speaking), you should see be able to see results within one month or less even on a brand new domain with no history or authority.

Pretty much, but don't worry too much about whether or not something is white hat. Leave that to people who want to argue about what is white hat, grey hat, black hat, or plaid hat. :D Just do your best to avoid violating Google's TOS and anything that seems shady or deceptive.

No one advised you to do so. Just avoid black hat and you'll be fine :)

Although you would have to be an SEO expert if you can get the effects of white hat SEO in a short span of time. You would also need a good collection of resources in your arsenal as well.

It doesn't seem that complicated or difficult to me. A few pages of good content, a small handful of quality backlinks, and some basic on-site SEO will produce real results within a month or two. You won't bang the top of Google with that little effort, but you will definitely see substantial results nonetheless. No special resources or expertise is needed, just a firm grasp of SEO basics and the willingness to invest a bit of work.

Quite true however, it would depend on the niche you are competing with and how competitive your keywords are. You can expect too get on top like bang instantly for keywords such as 'insurance' and the sort. XD

Absolute agreed! However, don't judge things on pure competition numbers alone. It is surprising how many big keywords have really weak competition.

You're really only competing against the top 10 to 25 sites. Everyone else is meaningless. If you have a niche with a million competitors but the top ten results are filled with sites that have nearly worthless backlinks and poor on-site optimization, it is pretty easy to get to the first page. If you have a niche that only has 20 competitors but they are all content-rich sites that are well-optimized and have a ton of very good backlinks, it's going to be a long and difficult struggle to get anywhere near the first page.

    Does that make sense?

    Agreed as well.

Although they might just be the top 10 but still, they are THE top 10 and that would be like Hades, Poseidon and Zeus that you're up against. And, I wouldn't really be that much surprised for some of the Big keywords have weak competitions especially if the trends are going downhill as well.

in my opinion only white hat. I personally never used blackhat and i would never ever recommend it . If you know how to optimize a site then white hat is the best option because if used correctly can bring you lots of targeted traffic for months or even years to come. If you use blackhat methods Google will sandboxed your site very quickly and your chances to get your site up again in SERPS are almost zero even if then you decide to use white hat
