Nofollow do not considered for ranking or gaining page rank as search engine do not follow such links. But getting no follow link with dofollow link make your link building strategy natural... We don't know what search engine will plan in future so getting nofollow backlink is not a bad idea but dofollow is must for better ranking.

Nofollow backlinks will not pass pr link juice for your site. This means that this will not help much in terms of keyword ranking.

Nofollow backlinks are useless for SEO. I am fine with nofollow links from certain types of sites. For example I would still put my signature on DP even if it turned nofollow.

Yes in terms of Search Engine ranking you will not get benefit. Search Engine Crawler do not follow the link if they find "rel=nofollow". So you don't get any link juice from it. But it can help you get visitors if it is from a reputed site such as DP. A lot of visitors comes in DP daily. If you have signature there some of them may like to visit your page. And you know the more the visitors, the better the ranking.

It baffles me when I see people who offer SEO services spreading horribly false information. And it scares me to think people actually pay you to do their SEO work. Google is the only search engines that looks at nofollow tags. All the other search engines completely ignore them. With that in mind, nofollow links do help your rankings on search engines like Bing and Yahoo. But you are right about nofollow links making your link building looks natural to Google.

Tests have show that nofollow links do pass PR, although it is reduced. Even Matt Cutts openly said that nofollow links pass PR.

Useless? That's far from the truth. First of all, go build nothing but dofollow links and let me know when you get in trouble with Google. Second of all, Google is the only search engine that looks at nofollow tags. Sure, Google gets the majority of all the searches but that doesn't mean you should completely exclude other search engines like Yahoo and Bing. You can still get a lot of traffic from them and you're leaving a lot on the table if you're avoiding building nofollow linkings and wasting your time looking for only "dofollow" links.

I'm getting really close to writing an ebook over all the crap information I see spread on forums like this every day.

They will not make any difference to your website ranking but they still help to drive traffic.
Not a major thing to worry about but good to have because it does draw a following if your blog content is good.

I will be glad to read your book. But apart from 'muddying' your link profile what impact nofollow links have? You want to build nofollow links so that your link profile looks natural. As far as OP's question is concerned (I will repeat it for you because you seem to have missed the point altogether trying to prove that you know better than others)

    .

The answer remains NO. Nofollow links don't have any effect on website rankings.

Regarding Bing and Yahoo, yes, you have a great point there. Bing is increasing it's market share and should not be ignored.

No-follow are usually frowned upon by people searching for links, but to say that you won't pass page juice might be an over statement, look at all those twitter accounts with huge pr that mainly have links for thousands of other twitter accounts. I think there is something to be said for the no-follow link, just no one really knows what. My two cents!

They actually do effect website rankings. Like I said, the only search engine that pays any attention to nofollow links is Google, but Google still lets nofollow links pass link juice. Google won't be on top forever. Microsoft really seems to be putting Google in its sights.

I will repeat what you said earlier -- -It baffles me when I see people who offer SEO services spreading horribly false information.- (I will add people who plan to write an eBook about the topic).

There is no proof that nofollow has any effect on website rankings. I have tried it within my network and it didn't make any difference. Google's official position is "nofollow doesn't affect ranking". The 'safest' statement you can make about it is : "I 'suspect' Google still passes link juice."

We now know nofollow links on a page 'leak PR' (official) but the leaked PR is passed (even a portion) to the linked page .. no proof.

I already agreed to your other point about not ignoring Bing ;-)

Yes, you should increase both nofollow and dofollow links so that your site is more natural and won't get banned by Google.

There is a video of Matt Cutts (hopefully you all know who he is) openly saying nofollow links pass reduced PR. If I wasn't at work, I would go digging for it. I'm sure it's on YouTube.
