Hi Can you please let me know what the importance of a domains age is in terms of SEO? IE. is a domain thats seven years old with ten backlinks to it going to rank significantly better than a domain thats 4 years old with the same backlinks? Pls let me know if thats the case Thanks Luke
Depends on who you ask, but on page factors including stuff like domain age are 10% of Google's ranking according to some people and up to 30% according to others. I think they are (no matter where you put the %) more important on Yahoo and Bing though.
Ranking is depended to many factors and one of them is age of domain. Your question can have both yes or no answer. Maybe new domain rank better than older one. Content, pagerank, quality of backlinks, link structure and many many other factors are effective for ranking results.
Rather than Google and yahoo, Bing only provides higher preference to domain age. So domain age also less important on SEO.
Ranking factors may not stay remain same at every time there me be changes made before an era.Yes Google was gave importance to old domains but now a days that assumption was gone and to prove it you may see the examples by searching any term like "Google Mania" or "Google Lovers" or nay search term and analyze that what results shows you.I am not saying that each and every search term results you a new web sites but their is not necessary that old is gold always because new web sites also ranking well then oldies. @ emailm Google gives priority it can be true but Yahoo! and Bing no way,Yahoo! and Bing has their different algorithm and according to Bing and Yahoo! algorithm they both loves newly born web sites.
Age shows the reliability of site therefore domain age does matter in SEO but I think Ranking depends upon the age as well as the quality and quantity of backlinks. The more quality backlinks you have the more Page rank you will receive.
There are age of the site is not small, it is definitely good ... for example, the domain will not be filtered by the sandbox and gain more trust from search engines ...
I agree, Domain age make it more authoritative so Older domain has advantage over identical newer doamin. But, Ranking is not affected only by domain age. Domain is just a small factor in ranking. Except domain age, it is more important that when it is going to expire. A domain registered for a longer period has also advantage over domain expiring in less than one year...
Age there more important, where still same site and same related keywords. If you will buy old domain and try will change it, then age not worth too much and will be start counted from this moment where you will change website. If you'll continue of domain related keywords/content - then is much easier to do seo for it, much less chance to receive penalty from search engines for linking with anchor text which been related to this domain from begining. In this way you perfect will see diference between old and new domain name.
Quite natural. Because older the domain, it is quite likely to have lots of content, each content being indexed by the search engines. So the older the domain(the more the content), and hence it gets ranked higher.
Nobody knows for sure the significance of domain age and expiration in search engine rankings, but my opinion is that it doesn't hurt to register the next 5-10 years if you have an established business that plans to operate for the foreseeable future. A longer domain expiration demonstrates a commitment to search engines that the site will be around for a while, so even if there's only a small SEO benefit, it's probably worth the investment.
Are you sure ? Do you have any test done that you talking for everybody ? Of course we can't say exactly 81.2 or 81.3 percent for example, but somebody knows meaning of domain age and how to use it in seo.
When it comes to backlinking, domain reputation is more important than it age. If a 4 year old domain is more reputed than 10 year old domain, definitely you will get more backlinking credit with 4 year old domain.
