I am sick of listening to suckers biting the hook & falling for marketing gimmicks. Ever heard of the word overselling? http://whreviews.com/overselling-hosting.htm http://www.overselling.com/whatisit.shtml
I've been pretty happy with zzhosting. A partner of mine also got me to help him set up his site with 1&1 they're ok, but I don't like their control panel, and also no fantastico which blows. But they do have great deals. The only other thing that sucks is the SQL databases have a limit of 100megs, at least on the package he got. Hope this info helps you out.
when i jump on to AIM with my hosting company and can see that they're online, it's more like: me: hello, anyone there? have a quick question whisupport:... me: just a quickie, i promise whisupport: ... me: let me know when you're back -User whisupport has gone offline
These are quite bad Matt mate, you have a dedicated server now though dont you... So you should be OK.
When you go looking for a host remember to look for a few things. 1. You get what you pay for, don't expect any good plans for under $5/mo -- it costs money to run servers, pay for support, and merchant account fees. 2. Ask for PROOF of uptime! Everyone (and their mom) thinks they can keep their servers up 9.999999999999% of the time, but the truth is they can't. This is what a real report should look like >>> hyperspin.com/publicreport/67517/13307 3. Ask for a test download file, you should be getting at least 500kb/sec+ if they don't have their servers overloaded and are on a quality network.
when looking at any host - and looking at their promised bandwidth, etc keep in mind that hosts offering 100+-2000GB traffic per month often have a TOS that includes a "danger to server" paragraph. in a shared hosting package such as my approx 10$/m shared host package at 1and1.com i use now some 45 GB/m traffic - that is less than 2% of my package-allowance - and got 2 days ago an email from 1and1.com saying: my package usage is as the picture shows tiny .. hence no matter how good a package looks reality often is different and 1and1.com may have its own quality problem if such rather small traffic with very limited use of mysql causes already a danger to the server. my small traffic causes them to quote the TOS and I think that if such moderate traffic and server usage is harmful for a host's server - then THAT host is a potential danger to a growing dynamic website who wishes to expand and deploy full creative potential. after 9 years hosted in USA i realized that european packages now are much better in HW performance as well as in all other features. hence my decision is to move my site now to europe on a dedicated server in europe it appears normal today to have a AMD 64 bit processor ranging from athlon, turion to opteron, 1 or 2 GB RAM, raid1 sata drive and a linux of your choice even in middle class dedicated servers far below 100$ per months i signed up for a root server with hetzner.de yesterday if for any reason that would fail then my next option would be strato.de both have excellent HW far above USA-standards truly UNlimited traffic in all middle priced dedicated servers and many features a US host only dreams of for prices usually 70-90 us$/m many years ago - about 1998 or so - i had a very similar warning and request to move to a more expensive package - then I had some 100'000 hits per months ... in an "unlimited" traffic package ... then I moved to another host as well. hence the principle of making attractive promises and finally have them all empty appears till to be the same in some parts of the industry - only the numbers of traffic have changed to different dimensions.
Thats funny, most of our customers are people like you, who realized all those hosts that offer the world for a penny is just a marketing gimmick.
actually it's a blessing for me long time - at least 2 or so years - i was thinking about root server or managed dedicated server for many very solid reasons such as charset configuration in mysql for my multilingual site which traditionally on USA based hosts is insufficient as well as for the simple reasons that i love to have any system tool online that i use offline in my suse linux since 1998 ( only the first few months i work on win OS ) the only way to have all as i wish is a root server - including root responsibilities and right / benefits all the years shared hosting always had some limitations that restricted my creative productivity or slowed it down or just made work more annoying than needed. i love to work and i love the freedom. hence being forced to move to dedicated now just before christmas(highest-traffic)-saeason ... also makes me move to best dedicated server, root-server and best hardware hence finally i return "home" to europe with hosting - a move i was looking for since years, but european hosting with physical datacenters in europe in previous years have simply been too expensive.in traffic. now things have totally changed in performance and price european hosts can easily outperform any large US host in price and quality of HW/SW without the "push" and date set by 1and1 i might try to cope with shared hostign another many months before having done the long time necessary step into deicated root server to fully deploy the creative productivity within
You would be surprised how many comments and emails I received over that article I wrote on my blog. Many people have been saved from distress by reading it. I don't realy care if no one searched Google for that keyword, as long as that company gets bad publicity for their terrible service then I am happy.
they are FANTASTIC, I haven't experienced any downtime, and the service is great. The prices are great for what you get and the Admin Control Panel is unbelievable. I would tell you to go with hostgator but the control panel is TERRIBLE. 1and1 has treated me great. Edit: I should post my affiliate link here.
Hey there. I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or if you are serious. Well, you guys should know that people are getting organized to sue 1and1.com, they even have websites like bankraid.com . I've had bad experiences with them too. Adrian
true 1and1.com may be fine for smallest sites what happens if your site grows just a little bit bigger is shwon in my ealrier post further down on THIS page/thread while i have no time to sue - at least i am fully busy to move to another host within shortest possible time - 1and1.com first gave me 4 weeks - hours later 2 weeks to move to dedicated server ... if you plan to have a mini-site fine may be if you plan to grow more to OTHER host that allows you to grow within th eplan they offer in advertisement just have a look at the tiny usage i actually and really use by % of their package offer ... downtime was ok - the last 2+ yrs i was with 1and1.com we had only about half a dozen downtimes totalling may be 2-3 hrs all together back ups - they do are sometimes a months or so old if at all - the last one i needed a few months back was several weeks old and useless as back up

Heh - This thread is coming 3rd on Google for worst host ever now. From what i've seen when researching good hosting companies, everyone has had a bad experience with every company out there. You just have to go with what you think is best, and don't put all your eggs in one basket (if you host multiple sites).
Maybe people with less money and coming to this hosting business print, WHM/cPanel helps documents from official websites and also improve their English by studying proper literature and Grammar for engaging on Social Media to sell their hosting products. Better than marketing products of other companies like Hostgator or SoftLayer.
Jaguar, this post is twelve years old. Maybe start a thread with your post instead of putting it on this old one. Or not,
