One way versus reciprocal links

Does anybody know how much better a one way link to your site is versus a reciprocal link?

The reason I am asking is that I am trying to build backlinks, and some sites will either do a reciprocal for free, or a one way for a fee, and I do not know how much money it is worth to buy a link.

I know this is a vague question, but any advice would be great.

    Thanks

One way links are MUCH MUCH better.
Reciprocal links are ok if that is all you can get, but they should definitely not be your focus.

    Read up on link baiting...

one way links are the way forward for sure. reciprocal links are ok and they do help but if you can get hold on one way inbound links then do it.

    One way links rule. :D

If you build a great website which offers value to the web this should come naturally and that is what Google likes :)
More one way link = more votes for your site...

I think the focus should be more on where you are getting the links from, than on whether it is one-way, reciprocal or three-way.

    Really?

So my 500 Reciprocal links with topic related sites with good PR are crap?

Then I need to get rid of these and stick with my 20 one way links to completely non topic related links.

Seems like the best move to me Rehash

I guess I should reword my question. I have about $300 to spend on my site (not a lot, I know). The question is, how much bang for my buck do I get for one way over reciprocal link? For example, to list with BOTW, I am talking $150 (1/2 my budget). I tried the free method, but I am guessing it is like DMOZ, and I might get listed in a couple years. So, is it worth $150 for a good one way link? Will it help my ranking significantly or move me from position 110 to 108?

    Thanks!

Based on what I've read, I don't get the impression that Google will be disregarding the value of reciprocal links as long as they are with themed sites. There seems to be no dispute that one way inbound links are of higher value than reciprocal but realistically especially for a newer site, I don't see how viable it is to get them other than by paying for them as was alluded to earlier in this thread but my feeling is that those sites that are selling outbound links will be setting themselves up for blacklisting by Google before too long as Google gets wise to this just as they gotten wise to the link farms. Any thoughts on this?

Without a doubt one way linking is great BUT....

In reality, unless you are gonna pay big bucks for a one way link then reciprocal links in the same theme as your own site are just as good if not better than some slightly dodgy bought one way links that you find 'for sale'.

As you rightly say, link farms were great but G got wise pretty quickly and quashed them.

I recon G will do the same to these sites selling one way links and not a lot else.

Remember G is after organic results NOT bought results!!

One way links are any day better.

According to me, Three-way links is as good as one way links. But make sure the links are from different servers.

In my own experience, one way links that actually point to some relevant content in your site works best. Again, content is still king and over time Google will reward you for it.

both are useful. I consider one way links for increasing my page's PR and reciprocal for gaining traffic :)
