OK... so here is the deal. I have zero faith in the web designers on this forum! Yeah... that's right zero. Every time I find someone to do some work they cannot seem to make deadlines or get the work done. This is unacceptable! So what am I looking for??? Here: 1) someone that can communicate effectively and efficient 2) someone that can meet deadlines (nothing pisses me off more) 3) someone that does decent work 4) someone that takes paypal 5) someone that has a portfolio to show me (even if it's just 2-3 designs) 6) someone that isn't a dickhead and wants to establish a business relationship for more projects. If anyone here thinks they can meet these requirements... send me a PM with some proof. Thanks, Stuart
hmm...Who is the dickhead..? Take a few deep breaths - smindsrt - you're usually a lot more..er...calm.
Just the last 4-5 web designers that never completed their work. I do a lot of business on this forum and I hardly ever have problems with links, sites, paid to posters, submissions services but web designers... not sure why the last 4-5 I have dealt with are flakes. I'm hoping they are not all this way.... that's why I want to see someone prove me wrong.
I agree with you man, my experience with both designers and programmers has been frustration. Why are they notorious for delays??
Smindsrt, hey man! Who's been busting the balls of my favourite member here ? Do you like my new blog design ? If yes, just mail me some info's about what you need. My company doesn't accept Paypal unfortunatelly. Only 2CO (credit card) and bank transfers. We can handle the rest of the points mentioned above
I am agree to do this job. Check my sites: http://www.profitrun.net My new site, didn't get a domain for it yet: www.profitrun.net/ztp Check my PM in your box.
Too funny! yeah... I like the design of your blog. I like the more web2.0 ish stuff. I hate paying by 2checkout but I would for the right person.
http://www.invisionblue.com/designs/bengals/ is my latest job. I can work for you but I only take 2CO.
i have also had a difficult time getting web designers to complete work, or even stay in touch "once and awhile" during the process. i'm talking about some "basic stuff" > HTML/CSS/A FEW GRAPHICS HERE AND THERE. no ecommerce, no scripting or anything like that. i have at least 5 websites i need done, can't find anyone who wants the work, can communicate effectively, meet, or even resemble a deadline, etc. etc. etc. it's enough to make a guy go out and learn web design. please don't make me. LOL 2 final points... 1) www.kalinawebdesigns.com (member) is EXCELLENT, but she's SWAMPED! unfortunately. 2) THIS IS TRUE > my own nephew (awesome skills) has been putting me off on a simple template / web design since JULY! we met. i paid him a down payment. he said, "a week or two max." MY OWN NEPHEW. LOL anyway, i've got $ to spend on design, but no one to give it to. oh yeah, a guy on NP (i like NP), started another site for me 2 months ago, and is now POOF - GONE! my partial design is STILL ON HIS SERVER. i can look at it every day if i want - BUT NOT A WORD FROM HIM - ZERO. signed, confused, and a little scared (not scarred) LOL mike
I believe the reason you guys run into these people is because they are part time web designers, they're just doing it in the evening as a side job. I'm on the web atleast 12 hours a day as this is my full time job, I keep in touch with my clients with phone conversations and help them on any minor changes even months after the project is complete. I'm still in daily touch with a guy I've done work with from almost a year now because he doesn't really know much about php/mysql like I do so I help him on that for no charge at all. This morning I had a phone conversation with a new client I got, I will be helping him even after the project is complete for no charge because he doesn't know the php or graphic design like I use everyday. You guys just need to find the right people who this day in and day out like I do, not just someone who is doing it every other day in the evenings to make a little cash.
Hey smindsrt I've had the same exact problems as you. Not with programmers from this forum but from other sources. I actually talked with Scott on the phone today, have seen his work and he seems pretty trustworthy so I decided to use him for a new project. Anyhow, just thought I'd chime in.
I will probably hire a few people.. and yes I will let you guys know. yeah.. colleen does great work. She did one of babies about 8 months ago... but yeah she seems real busy. I will send Scott a PM... thanks! I also need a VB skin for a new forum... anyone design and code VB skins before??? If so for this project I would like to see at least 3-4 skins you have done.
hi smindsrt.. yah, i know.. it's really frustrating to have to go through the wrong people before finding the right one to do the job. but i think Scott's got a point. maybe problems like these arise when hiring people who work in a part time basis only (project based). These people may have unpredictable schedules and may not have the appropriate tools or work environment. I think, people who can devote their whole day to working on your project are the ones to hire. Preferably someone who will work for you exclusively (not just for one project but for multiple projects), who will get direct instructions from you, and who can be with you (and stay with you) in a long term working relationship.
I agree with Scott - Most "web designers" I run into these days turn out to be 'part timers'. I myself fall into that catagory, and having taken on a number of small-medium size clients before (in addition to managing a seperate career job) I know how difficult it can be to pay each project enough attention and to communicate successfully with clients while balancing the career, family time & any sort of a social life. Not to excuse 'part time' web designers, but it does help to put things into perspective. Myself, I've moved away from taking on many small business/small revenue clients to only managing a few serious relationships/engagements that include serious compensation. This means I can maintain the same income, but have more resources/time to dedicate to each client. Not to discourage you from hiring any 'part time' web designers, but you seem to be looking for someone with some experience under their belt (no "Hey I think I'll be a web designer this week" guys), and someone who has a vested interest in maintaining the relationship. (ie makes their full time living) That really boils down to a full time web designer (not that they are all perfect at communication etc) smindsrt Good luck on buildingthat relationship with the right designer Guys hawking for the job Good luck maintaining that relationship (and don't screw smindsrt - I think he might have a coronary if you do )
