Is it easier to get traffic starting with a blog or a website? I have recently started a wepage offering reviews on computers cars and electronic products. Would I generate more traffic if I used the blog model or just a webpage?
I have been thinking the same thing. I am giving myself 3-6 months trying everything they write about in this forum to see what works and what doesnt work. Thx for the reply
Personally, I would go with Blogs because of the ease of setup... And, I KNOW I'm going to get blasted for this (if anybody major here reads it), but personally, I have a feeling Google is liking blogs at the moment. Could just be the way they're designed, with Archive links, previous post links, main page links, etc... Google can find it's way around easier.
I would say blogging is the best way, every p;ost made you can ping all the major ping services and you are almost guaranteed to get some traffic. I have the perfect wordpress template with ads / affiliate as the main design. Most blogs are not really suited to ads etc. Let me know if you are interested mate.
Definately blog. Regular websites have their place but you will see quicker and easier results with a blog.
I have been reading the word ping over and over, what does that mean? Im very new to blogs and the way they work on the backend.
Pinging means letting em know that you have update your blog, and its time for the spiders to come visiting http://pingoat.com/ is one for example.
I think this comes from the fact that there's an application called "ping" which is a tool that tries to verify whether there's a response coming from a certain network address, whether it's a website or on your network at work. Here it's kind of used in the reverse fashion of "telling" a site that YOUR site is alive (and, in this case, has new content).
I have used php / MYSQL to build my site. . I have made the URL's search enging friendly. So is this in any way less SE friendly than blogs? I submit the site's sitemap to google whenever the sites content has been changed. If blogs are a better option then I will surely consider it for my next site, which I have started building.
I would say that no, it's no less friendly than a blog. As long as you follow the standard link building and coding (design) practices, you should be fine. Also, remember that building links within the site are also important. So, for example, your list of "Other Cell phones of Samsung" could be a list of links to those actual pages.
one major disadvantage of blog model is your blog provider can discontinue its service(shut down blogs) whenever they want it .
blogs seem to be picked up by search engines very well imo...especially blogger by google.. but in terms of revenue i think webpages are better
Thanks I was worried that I am loosing out to blogs I still prefer the php / HTML pages for my sites, as I have never used blogs before. I feel they give more flexibility for site layout.
You can find some big blogs from your field, contact the owner and ask him if you can write there. Use specific (exact) keywords in the title, write an interesting post and put the link which points to your your site then.
Basically, the best thing to do would be to build a website. then install WordPress and have the best of both worlds. When you create a post in your blog it pings all the services and brings in residual traffic into your site. BTW - whoever said that you can't make money using blogs is mad. I have made the most cash using blogs by far. Tag and Ping (My product but will get you huge amounts of traffic, you do not need to buy it as all the infor is freely available. With the videos it is all consolidated and will save huge amounts of time.) is the best and easiest way to get free traffic to your sites. WEB 2.0 is the way of the future.
for experiments blogs are OK !!!! but if you are thinking about some sort of serious bussiness to follow up your efforts better go with site/web pages
